Frame Of Mind 09.06.2021

If you haven't yet experienced a Stumpcraft puzzle, you're missing out! These solid wood puzzles epitomize masterful craftsmanship and are so much fun to build - no matter whether you normally like puzzles or not. Why, you ask? Because they're nothing like a "normal" puzzle! Shown here, "Malediction" by artist Julien Delval is sold out online but not in-store! Come in to Frame Of Mind to grab your copy (without having to pay any shipping fees!) before it's too late. =)

From artist William Winchester, this chalk pastel entitled "The River" was framed here at Frame Of Mind in a very careful and particular manner in order to minimize the appearance of miniscule chalk particles that can (and often do!) detach over time. Matted in conservation matboard from Crescent Cardboard and framed in the now discontinued Verona series of Larson-Juhl genuine burl moulding, the final consideration was beautifully clear and protective glass from Tru Vue. If you have an original pastel that you'd like framed professionally in a way that will continue to look great for many years to come, we'd love to have you in-store to take care of you ... and your art!

It's hard to believe this show was nine years ago , from a time when "pandemic" was just a scary word that we never thought we'd have to live with! Our customer wanted this collage of Nickelback memorabilia framed as a gift for the friend that accompanied her to the show. Frame Of Mind took care of the custom engraving and the conservation framing of the gigposter, ticket and VIP pass in Crescent Cardboard matboard and Tru Vue glass.

Here at Frame Of Mind, we've been under such high demand since last March (thank you so much for all of your support throughout this pandemic!) that I haven't made the time for many social media posts. My apologies - we appreciate all of your patience with us! However you roll, we'll rock your art! This limited edition, signed print from artist/musician Tim Armstrong of Rancid was titled "Avenues & Alleyways" and was custom framed in specialty bright core matboard from ...Crescent Cardboard and gorgeous frame moulding from Roma Moulding. Incredibly clear and non-reflective glass from Tru Vue finished the piece. Unique, fun, and fresh!

Custom framing is our passion here at Frame Of Mind, and being a small business, we're also passionate about supporting other fantastic local artists and businesses. In early June, 2020, Frame of Mind partnered with artist and craftsman Jasen Robillard to offer his full line of StumpCraft puzzles in-store here in Edmonton. This Alberta-based company creates laser-cut puzzles unlike anything you've ever seen and that feature the best of Canadian fine art - out of solid wood...! After mixing some craft cocktails (New Yorkers: https://www.liquor.com/recipes/new-york-sour/), Sheldon and Vanessa of Frame of Mind settled in to make and custom frame artist Sam Millard's "Noah's Ark" StumpCraft puzzle (Howoriginal.ca Sam Millard Artist). The puzzle was assembled on our bespoke coffee table, made possible by master craftsman and woodworker Zach Kingma of Kingma Lumber Masters. What follows is our photographic journey! When it came to framing, we wanted the puzzle's frame to be an extension of the puzzle itself. Featuring custom matboard and backings from Crescent Cardboard and a fun-to-assemble stack of frames from Larson-Juhl, the frame was made to allow the puzzle to be "stored" and displayed either on an easel or on a wall, but taken down at any time to be easily unframed and reassembled. We framed our puzzle without glass to retain the tactile element of the puzzle that we loved so much! Custom framing, art, and puzzles - it doesn't get any better than this!

Earlier this year, we at Frame Of Mind were tasked with the reframing of an original painting by artist William Perehudoff. We love work like this because the transformations are always so impressive! Born in 1918, Canadian artist William Perehudoff was best known for his color field paintings. What remains of his original are quite valuable indeed, with this painting on canvas entitled "La Loche" being valued at around $15,000. The painting was brought to us in a minimalis...t but dated frame. After removing it and inspecting it's condition (which was quite good!), the painting was re-framed in a stack of the highest quality wood frames from both Roma Moulding and Larson Juhl. At an impressive age of 94, Perehudoff passed away in 2013, leaving behind a legacy of art that we Canadians can be proud of!

Custom framing at Frame of Mind is a great way to honor and preserve the memory of a pet that has passed. For this collage of photos, a molded paw print, and a custom engraved plate (if you didn't know, we offer engravings, too!), Larson-Juhl's beautiful Dillon line of quality frame mouldings was used along with matboard from Crescent Cardboard and Tru Vue glass.

"What can we do with this old photo of my Dad?", you ask? Let us show you! This black and white photo had been stored for decades until our customers decided to see what we could do with it. We mounted the photo to flatten out the years of curling, dents and creases, matted it in conservation-grade Crescent Cardboard linen matboard complete with an inset engraving of the man's name, Uwe, and framed it in stylish Roma Moulding. Glass from Tru Vue was the final touch in preserving this great photo from the past.

In recognition of Orange Shirt Day, we at Frame of Mind want to share our custom framing of this original pastel of Chief Joe Samson from artist Byron Samson. As a winner of the 2018 Peace Hills Trust annual art contest, this is one of many incredible art pieces submitted. We're lucky to meet and see the art of some incredible First Nations peoples. So much talent! This particular piece was given the dignity and honor it deserved with the absolute best in museum-grade Couture matboard from Crescent Cardboard, premium quality frame moulding and inset fillet from Roma Moulding, and Optimum glazing from Tru Vue.
