Did a little experimenting with astrophotography with my friend Al Lockley a few nights ago. We were shooting the Orion Nebula, which is 1344 light years away. That's about 1.3x10^16 kilometers away. (13 quadrillion, I think?) So, the light that makes up this image left the nebula about 500 years before Genghis Khan ruled Mongolia. That kinda blows my mind.
