I received a package from Jonathon Riley of https://lunkertrail.com/ He sent me two rod holders that attach to the cleats on your boat, so no need to drill holes or anything. I have rod holders I installed on my boat but they are in the middle of the boat, where my cleats are on either end so this will give me more options. I will shoot a video of them in the spring. I may not have gotten a deer this year which was disappointing in itself, but I sure had a blast this fall being in the woods. These mild temperatures made it quite easy. Saddest day of the year is taking down the tree stand, I should have it all packed up and hiked out in a few hours.

I’ve said one and I’ll say it again.

I’m hunting today and tomorrow. Yesterday morning 4 deer at my stand last night three... ugh lol. Cleaned out my apples. I have one 50lbs bag left.

Pissing down rain now. But I got my tree umbrella lol

A rainy last day of general gun season and this guy decides to start showing up 8:00 and 11:00 last night. Very frustrating. I keep reminding myself that I did shoot an awesome big buck on the last hour of the last day one year. Since September I have had countless does at my apples during daylight hours but not one buck. Ugh.

Back to the truck for lunch and to get warmed up. It’s 15 degrees C out but I’m frozen to the bone. When I was younger the cold rarely bothered me. I could sit in blind or stand all day long. The older you get the more sensitive you become I guess and the more you have to pee lol.

If I could only convince this guy that I was a doe in heat...... okay that didn’t sound right. It’s my experience that rutting bucks don’t eat a lot. When they are on does they only have one thing in mind. During that period they can lose a lot of weight. Once the rut slows down they will strap on the feed bag. This guy stayed on my apples for 50 minutes last night. First time this year a buck has done that. If he’s hungry enough now he may step out in the light. At least I know he’s in the area.

Back in self isolation.

If you spend as much time outdoors as I do, sun exposure is a real problem and danger. When I was younger, getting burnt while fishing happened during ice fishing and every summer, especially sitting in a boat all day with the sun reflecting off the water. I have had skin cancer removed once and yesterday had a mole removed that had the potential to be cancerous. I was given the choice to have it removed or wait and see........ I had it removed. When I am fishing in my boat..., most of the time I am dressed from head to toe, tons of sunscreen on and I have had funny looks and social media comments about my gloves, long pants, and long shirt when it's 28 degrees Celius out. I only post this because I have a lot of young followers that may not be thinking about sun damage when outdoors, especially during this time of year. Who gets burnt in the fall and winter? Outdoors people do. Dressing appropriately and using sunscreen all year round needs to be part of your plan for your adventure so you are safe to have future fun and continue to enjoy the outdoors for many years to come. Plan to not get sunburned in every adventure!

Just got back to my stand and the coyotes were freaking out. I just caught the tail end of their excitement. I can’t check this video to see if the sound got picked up because I’m in my stand and want to remain quiet but they went cray cray. Very close.

My 87-year-old dad and the man who taught me how to hunt, trap, and fish still rabbit catching, he's a going concern. I am hoping to collect some clips for an instructional video. He does all the work and I shoot video. lol

Finally a beast of a buck shows up. He’s totally into the rut right now. The little button buck that comes to my stand is smelling the does arses now but they are chasing him away and want nothing to do with him. If only this big boy would step out into the light. What an amazing looking deer. There’s hope lol.

At Nearly 20 degrees C I stayed in the stand until noon. And if I can stay in my stand til noon you bet deer don’t need to get up and move around to get warm. The woods is uncomfortably quiet even mid day. No squirrels rushing around.

Decided to bring my old standby today, she deserves some action. I have killed a fair share of deer with this gun, it’s seen a lot of cool country and early morning sunrises. A family friend gave the gun to my Dad and he gave it me. I put a scope and a strap on it, well my parents did as I was a kid with no money. It’s all I wanted for Christmas that year, a scope and a strap. They took the gun to a gunsmith had it checked over as well. The next season I shot an eight pointer with it, who was running down over a ridge. A shot I would never take today. Not to mention it was way back in the country and it took my Dad and I 5 hours to get him out. I sighted it in recently and it’s still deadly accurate.

And now the walk back to the truck. Coyotes are keeping me company, they’re excited right now.

Walked for several hours still hunting, now back in the stand. I walked up on a nice doe feeding on the side of an old logging road. She never saw or scented me first nor last. I was hoping a buck might be trailing her. No such luck.

This past weekend I spent morning and evenings in my deer stand hoping to draw in some deer. I wasn't disappointed it was an incredible weekend with lots of activity. Winterizing the boat makes me so sad. Oil and gear lube has been changed. Oil filter replaced. Now wheel bearings and all other lube points and then storage of my gear.

WTF...... I put a small batch of apples out at 11:30 and went to lunch, got back at 2:00 and they’re all gone..... (screaming silently inside)

Cool morning in the stand. Thanks to Johanne’s mom, I am wearing the heated vest she gave me for Christmas last year. It’s awesome thanks Margaret. My tree comes with build in hangers for thermos and nap sack filed with jerky and chocolate bars..... for added warmth lol.

The coyotes are howling and yipping excitedly tonight. Wow there are a lot and not far off. I have to walk back to the truck in the dark yet. Something has them worked up. Hope it’s not me.

I just had 4 incredible does walk into my stand. As luck would have it no bucks. But they were fighting each other a bit and peeing everywhere so it will be interesting to see if a buck shows up following them. They hung around about a half hour. Very exciting afternoon.

My morning view at 1 degree. The forest is coming alive. I watch as squirrels steal my deer apples and fight each other for a pile they can’t possibly use in multiple life times. The competitive drive to dominate the stash is the best show show on earth right now.
