#MondayMotivation - a special thank you to our volunteers! While 2020 was a different year for the monitoring hubs, one thing didn’t change was that this sampl...ing season was a success thanks to our amazing team of volunteer citizen scientists. A big thank you to volunteers at the Zhiibaahaasing First Nation and Kingston Hubs who helped us monitor 3 different sites and learned about waters in their communities. In Toronto, as a result of the pandemic we had far fewer than the 550 volunteers of 2019, but they were no less dedicated. Read a blog by this summer’s Toronto hub coordinator, Alysse Mathalon, that highlights the amazing people who came out to monitor in Toronto on waterkeeper.ca At the Lake Erie - Niagara hub we are so grateful to the volunteers who helped monitor Lorraine Bay. We were excited to be joined by students from Niagara College in October for a day of safely learning about recreational water monitoring. A big thank you to Katie Bristow, our super volunteer, who helped train students and other volunteers this summer. In Vancouver, we were able to monitor our Olympic Village location weekly throughout the summer with the help of our amazing team of dedicated volunteers. Throughout the winter, we will be returning to pre-COVID-19 hub activity by monitoring water quality at two more locations on a bi-weekly basis. We want to give thanks to Amelia, Jonathan, and Georgia Paetkau, Atlanta Grant, and Lisa McAleese for their continued support and time. We couldn’t have connected people to swimmable waters this summer without our incredible volunteers. Thank you!

The West Vancouver Streamkeepers are totally on it! Last week we visited a spawning platform in Brother's Creek they built a few years ago. Now they've built a new fish ladder in Nelson Creek that will help Chum spawn in their natural habitat. Amazing work! https://www.nsnews.com//chum-salmon-make-historic-return-t
