One misconception I often hear is someone telling me "I have one ear that is down a little, but the other ear is perfectly okay so I dont think I need hearing aids at all" . Everything is relative, however usually we find that both ears are experiencing hearing loss. It is actually quite common to subconsciously favor a slightly better ear for tasks such as using the phone which can give the impression that the better ear is still functioning at peak form, but in our experience, it does seem that about 90% of patients require hearing aids for both ears .
