Fraser Valley Rose Farm 31.05.2021

Still adding more roses and other plants to our online store. Noticed this beauty still hasn't been snapped up: 'Singin' in the Rain' an apricot floribunda rose with a very sweet scent. I'll be revisiting the online inventory as time allows to add more photos and descriptions, so if you see a blank - I'll soon get there! https://www.fraservalleyrosefarm.com/shop/ Our plants are offered for no-contact pickup on the farm. It's been working out great! Saturday is the default, bu...t we can arrange other days with some notice. I also want to make a quick plug for those retail garden centers who have stocked our roses: Joya Garden Spot in South Surrey Port Kells Nursery in Langley and UBC Shop in the Garden in Vancouver It's a pleasure to know that our roses are making it into our customers' gardens even if they can't make the drive out to Nicomen Island (as nice a destination as it is!) If you're local to one of these garden centers, you can help encourage this arrangement by shopping the remaining assortment. Thanks so much! Photo by Noumenon (Creative Commons) CC BY-SA 3.0

For those who didn't make it out for our open farm day, here's a walk around!

'Maigold' pulled for a customer order. Coppery yellow describes the color quite well I think, and the scent is outstanding. Thanks to Sanjoy for getting it into my hands for propagation - and I still owe you a rose in return. #inmygreenhouse #maigold #rose

Our on-farm sale is all set for Saturday: https://fb.me/e/21XNNCnr3 There have been a number of cancellations related to the "travel ban". I have nothing but respect for your personal health choices, and I'll catch you another time! As for anyone else considering signing up, let me give you some reassurance: Because of the way we're set up, we're far lower risk than a trip to the grocery store or pharmacy: 1) We've set up our greenhouses with wider aisles and excellent air c...irculation 2) We've limited the number of visitors every 1/2 hour, designed to be well below the recommended density 3) We have a Covid plan in place, including signage, tracking and a pre-event email to each customer There are no new provincial restrictions on shopping. So follow my logic here: the way I see it, if it's okay to get in your vehicle and go shopping at Walmart - which is a far more crowded and less controlled environment than our farm - then it's also okay to support a local farmer who's doing it the right way. BTW, we proceed back into online sales and no-contact pickup as of the following Saturday. So if you can't make it this weekend, watch our website the coming days for an updated inventory

Would love to hear your opinions of how any of these would look on a plant tag!

What are the wackiest rooting hormone "replacements" you've heard about? Hmmm... do I go to the fruit bowl or spice rack?

I promise it's not ALL just standing at the end of a hose watering things

Highlighting job posting(s) from an excellent local plant producer: https://ca.indeed.com/Valleybrook-Gardens-Ltd-jobs Just to be clear, it's not my nursery - I just grow plants for them! If interested, click through the ad on Indeed. Jason

I was asked recently why 'Sally Holmes' is such a popular variety of garden rose. My answer: it retains the wide-open charm from the "musk" side of the family, but competes with the best of hybrids on flower size and constant bloom. This is it's 2nd big flush of the season, and honestly you'd mistake it for a hydrangea from any distance. #sallyholmes #hybridmuskrose #inmygardentoday #rosegarden

My little babies are all grown up. Growing lavender in a pot is a little different than in the landscape. Here's how:

Some of my favorites - and despite cooler/wetter than average weather locally, I bet I'll still thank myself later.

I got a chance to visit Tuscan Farm Gardens in Abbotsford this week. What a beautiful way to support local farming and tourism all in one trip. Social distancing in place - tickets required.

Some roses are too popular for their own good. Koko Loko sold out in a single week this year. After a number of requests, we've decided to offer pre-orders for some of our 2021 roses. It's just the ones we buy in as bare root from US suppliers, mind you, but a good assortment nonetheless. I'm even bringing in some David Austin roses this coming year. Details on our online store: www.fraservalleyrosefarm.com/shop/ Deposit required, local pickup only, orders must be in by July 24.
