Here is a link to my most recent letter to the editor. Our Conservative government is committed to delivering results results for Canada, for Nova Scotia, and for rural communities like Central Nova. Thanks to the strong leadership of our MP Peter MacKay over the past 18 years, our riding has seen results.... Peter has delivered to every pocket of our community including just recently: $50,000 in funding to the Summer Street Industries to renovate and construct a barrier free washroom for people with disabilities; $3 million in the Forbes Lake Water Treatment Facility Project and the Pictou Water Upgrades Project; and $135,558 through the New Horizons for Seniors Program to help with renovations so that seniors can take part in social activities in six locations in Pictou County. These examples are just the tip of the iceberg. We have put Canadians at the forefront of everything that we have done to ensure that our families are safe from harm, our taxes are low, our economy is thriving and that we are keeping jobs in our communities. Currently, our taxes are the lowest that they have been in over 50 years. Since 2006, Canadians’ taxes have been lowered over 160 times. The budget is balanced and income splitting for families has been implemented. This is something the Liberals have said that they would reverse. We created the Child Fitness Tax Credit and taken great strides to ensure that our seniors and our veterans are treated with respect and the utmost care and compassion. But we still have a lot that we can do. A re-elected Conservative government will not only work hard to ensure that local programs like those at Summer Street Industries, or activities for seniors across Pictou County continue to be supported in the future. We will also introduce new programs to help our small businesses thrive and keep our communities safe. We will ensure that the Home Renovation Tax Credit becomes permanent; ensure our seniors are protected in their retirement by introducing a $2,000 Single Seniors Tax Credit that will extend additional tax relief for single and widowed seniors; and protect jobs through the Manufacturing Strategy, helping Canadians benefit from new jobs, new investment and ensuring our manufacturing sector remains competitive in the global marketplace. What a beautiful sunny morning at the New Glasgow Farmers Market. Great to see so many folks out enjoying the wide array of local products. Thanks to Peter MacKay and his son, Kian for joining me and my family.

Here is a link to my most recent Letter to the Editor on the Long-Gun Registry: Canada’s hunters, anglers, farmers, and law-abiding gun owners deserve to be respected. A re-elected Conservative Government is the only party that will continue to stand up for law-abiding gun owners and protect their rights. In fact, New Democrat leader Thomas Mulcair has promised: We will bring in something that allows the police to track every gun in Canada. Mr. Mulcair’s New Democrats woul...d bring back the Liberal long-gun registry, undoing the work our Conservative Government has fought so hard to achieve. Meanwhile, Liberal leader Justin Trudeau, in his recently released platform has vowed to reverse many of the changes made through the Common Sense Firearms Act and to get handguns and assault weapons off our streets. But let’s be clear, this is simply fear mongering. Handguns and assault weapons already have strict conditions on them to keep Canadians safe and keep them off our streets. Our Conservative Government has stood strongly to protect Canadians from crime, keep our streets and communities safe and ensure that our victims are treated with the respect that they deserve. The Conservative Party does not believe that hunters and sport shooters are criminals. Instead, we have taken a stand with law-abiding farmers, duck hunters and rural Canadians by opposing the wasteful and ineffective long-gun registry. This billion dollar boondoggle needlessly and unfairly targeted law-abiding Canadians while doing nothing to reduce crime or strengthen our efforts to keep guns out of the hands of criminals. As a result of our government’s Common Sense Firearms Act, we are now able to allocate this money to crack down on real criminals, not law-abiding farmers and hunters. Our Government received a strong mandate from Canadians to scrap the long-gun registry and we did just that. This sad state of respect for gun owners and hunters from the Liberals and New Democrats is unacceptable. As The Executive Vice President of the National Firearms Association Blair Hagen has said of the Liberals' plan: They’ve firmly established themselves as the anti-gun party. They want to attack the legitimate ownership and use of firearms in Canada. They’ve learned nothing from the 1990s it appears. As Conservatives, we have always known that you don’t solve crime in large cities by criminalizing duck hunters, farmers, and sport shooters. Met with firefighters from across Pictou County today who were raising awareness on the importance of smoke alarms as fire prevention week comes to a close. It was great to see so many kids enjoying the lights and sirens of the fire trucks. Thanks to Tim Houston for joining me, and thanks to all of our service men and women who keep our communities safe.
