The Kennebecasis Valley Violence Against Women Advocacy Group has been established in partnership with the Kennebecasis Regional Police Force. The Group completed their training and first-ever round of sexual assault case reviews in October of 2020. Working together to improve outcomes.

Take Back the Night 2020 The Take Back the Night March originated in Europe in the early 1970's, and has since been held all over North America and the world as... a way for women to publicly express our anger at the sexuel violence that occurs in our community and the victim blaming that accompanies it. Take Back the night is a public protest that demands action against sexual violence that forces women, non-binary persons and children to live in fear. This international, annual event is a powerful opportunity for us to reclaim our voice and our right to safety. This year we are doing things a little differently, while we can't gather on the streets like we usually would, we can still have our voices heard. This year for Take Back the Night, we are encouraging people to get out and Take Back the Night in their own way! That could look like: - Taking a walk around in your neighborhood - Lighting a candle in the window - Making a sign and putting it outside your house or apartment Whatever you end up doing, we want to hear about it ! A closer look at the findings from the national survey

SVNB recently took part in a research project looking at how COVID-19 and social distancing measures have affected organizations and services for domestic violence and sexual assault. The project coordinator is currently looking for front-line workers from IPV and sexual assault organizations to share their experiences through an interview that would last 1-1.5 hours. If you wish not to attend but still want to particpate in the movement they have outlined other ways for involvement- There are other ways of showing solidarity such as donating to the movement (https://blacklivesmatter.ca/donate/ or https://minnesotafreedomfund.org/) and having conversations with your family and friends about racial injustices.

Being part of a feminist and activist organization it is our responsibility to always be learning and challenging our privilege, especially for those of us who are settlers. It is up to us to understand the intersections of sexual violence, racism and other forms of oppression. Although globally and internationally people are having these conversations, it's important to recognize that systematic racism exists in our communities just as they do elsewhere.
