Fredericton Boyce Farmers' Market 20.05.2021

The Fredericton Boyce Farmers’ Market was named after William Walter Boyce, who began his early farming days in Lincoln, specializing in turnips that were sold at the local Phoenix Square Market and at markets as far as Montreal and Boston. Boyce eventually expanded his farming operation, becoming a lumberman, fertilizer and feed merchant, with dreams that someday, Fredericton would build a proper market house. When Boyce died in 1950, he left $40,000 to the Municipality of ...York to build a market and now, 70 years later (yes, we have a birthday coming up !), we still operate every Saturday. More than just a Fredericton staple, our market has been and continues to be a social and cultural hub that is loved by many. Peter Dunphy recently found this receipt from 1931, that he thinks was a mortgage payment by his great-grandfather to W. Boyce in the form of wood or stumpage. Thank you for sharing, Peter a great reminder of our roots in this community and about how the market we know today came to be because of the dreams of a local farmer!

Courtney Geroux of TigerLily Glass is a self-taught artist! With inspiration drawn from nature and ideas she receives from her daughters, her projects are brought to life through patterns she has designed herself. Often playing with layers, textures, reactions and mathematical patterns, Courtney crafts her pieces from hand-cut glass, to form products that are food safe and tougher than traditional glassware. If you’re looking for one-of-a-kind, handmade item, TigerLily Glass... is the place to look - once a project is done, she doesn’t repeat the same design again! A perfect gift idea for the upcoming holiday season, you’re sure to leave your loved one feeling as special and unique as the piece you've chosen for them. Fresh out of the kiln, we’re giving you a sneak peak of one of Courtney’s many beautiful pieces that will be available at the market tomorrow! You will need to visit TigerLily Glass's vendor stall to see what else she has in store for the holiday season!

Meet our newest market vendor, Jamee Yerxa of Mom's Goodie Jar! Jamee is the maker behind delicious treats created with a focus on low carb, keto friendly, gluten free and refined sugar free ingredients. After starting the keto diet 2 years ago, Jamee quickly noticed a lack of options for Keto-friendly baked goods in and around Fredericton. Equipped with baking skills she’s been perfecting since her early days in the kitchen with her late great grandmother & grandmother,... it only made sense that she start making her own keto baked goods to share with friends and family. Fast forward 2 years, a couple seasons of sold-out holiday treat trays and more positive response then she could have ever dreamed of and Jamee is now a full-time maker of goodies on top of being a mother of two little ones, aged 3 and 4 (hence the name!) Jamee’s inspiration for making delicious baked goods for people with dietary restrictions is very much driven by hearing stories from customers about how her diabetic-friendly goodies are the reason they can enjoy sweets again or from fellow ketoers about their weight loss success. When you visit Mom’s Goodie Jar at the market, you will find either Jamee, her niece Mackenzie or longtime family friend Siera there, ready to tell you all about the delicious array of products from Carrot Cake Bars to Cheesecake Brownies - good luck making a decision !
