Visual artists! Would you be interested in an online sketching session featuring a dancer from Free Flow Dance Theatre each month? I am thinking some short poses, some gesture drawings with dancers shifting every 8 counts, some slow-motion improvisational dance etc. The session would be by donation and we would collect tips for the models. There may be some potential for online displays of artwork coming from this program. If you would be interested in something like this... please let me know. Tonight was the closing night of our outdoor, winter, nighttime show Dis-Dances and our 2020 performance season. It was a very strange year but we feel like we really accomplished a lot of magical things despite it all. It may not have been the 25th anniversary year we originally had planned for Free Flow but it certainly ended up being pretty fabulous. We produced not one but three online events for International Dance Week hosted a circus-inspired dance parade for one of o...ur beloved senior's residences, ran three showings of Back Alley Antics and created an original dance film of the event, launched many videos via our YouTube channel, ran online community workshops for Sask Abilities, Global Gathering Place, Open door Society and International Women of Saskatoon and hosted 14 different instructors teaching 28 different professional development workshops on zoom attracting students from across Canada and the US and even overseas! We hosted a fabulous block party dance party for our friends and neighbours complete with a DJ who played songs about dancing, live performances set in our neighbours front yards and porches and of course cupcakes. We also rehearsed, produced and presented our featured work Pods which was performed via Livestream and in various outdoor locations 8 times including one special Livestream production for contemporary theatre and dance students in Mexico. To top it all off we created a new 30-minute dance theatre piece Dis-Dances which tells the story of two sisters Selene (Goddess of Moonlight) and Eos (Goddess of the dawn) and their quest to find each other across the multiverses. It is a roller coaster of a ride and a parable for our time. One of distancing and missed connections. I could not have asked for a better cast of dancers to work with this season. It brought joy to my life in a time when it is in limited supply and I can only hope that we managed to bring a little bit of that joy to you along the way. Thank you so very much to everyone who helped to prop us up along the way. We love you all and will see you next season.
