While the federal government has committed over $2 billion to address root causes of #MMIWG, including improved access to justice for Indigenous people and supports for families and survivors, advocates say more needs to be done to address the violence Indigenous women and girls continually face. #EndVAW "Awareness is something that we've already done. Now, it's about creating the actions that are really going to stop ... the genocide" Learn more: http://ow.ly/TDt750EDCY8... #FreeOfViolence #DTES #YVR #Vancouver #AtiraWomensResourceSociety #AtiraVancouver #Atira #WomensResourcesBC #SupportWomen #WomensDonationCentre #ViolenceAgainstWomen #EndViolenceAgainstWomen #GenderBasedViolence #GBV #EndGBV #SexualAssault

Today marks the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. First Nations, Métis and Inuit women and girls continue to disproportionately experience violence because of a genocide based on sexism and racism, facing up to five times more violence than any other population in Canada. Even as our communities became ravished by the effects of the COVID pandemic, Indigenous women were still more worried about domestic violence than COVID-19. Ple...ase take this time to read up on resources and reports from the community to get a better understanding of what Indigenous women and girls face daily. We can only help dismantle and break the cycle of violence if we can fully understand the magnitude of how abuse can affect one's life and be passed on through intergenerational trauma. http://ow.ly/jjba50EDHCn #MMIWG #RedDressDay #NationalDayofAwarenessforMMIWG #FreeOfViolence #EndVAW #DTES #YVR #Vancouver #AtiraWomensResourceSociety #AtiraVancouver #Atira #WomensResourcesBC #SupportWomen #ViolenceAgainstWomen #EndViolenceAgainstWomen #GenderBasedViolence #GBV #EndGBV

Since March, organizations reported up to 30% increase of violence in certain regions. The report also shows up to 16% of women admitted to shelters experience "much more severe" violence. One of the things that is a key finding in this report ... is this idea that we need more support for grassroots movements and women’s services." #EndVAW Read more: http://ow.ly/ACgK50CZEEZ
