Had a short-but-fun training session with Teddy Kybio yesterday! He is the creator of French Combatives, a hybrid of Savate Defence Art (France) and Moring Art ...(Réunion Island). Our workout also included a very informative history lesson -- Teddy (who is French, from the Réunion Island) explained how the drills related to the historical need for combat from specific postures or situations. Bottom of a slave ship? There's a technique. Hands shackled behind, or in front of, your back? There are techniques. I also noted similarities with judo foot blocks... very interesting! After warming up with some single-stick De Campo FMA tire smashy-bashy, we practiced the Moring Ziondèl Kick, the Savate Chassé Medium Kick Old School, the Savate Chassé Latéral Medium Kick Old School, the Savate Chassé Frontal Block Kick Old School... and old school boxing sparring to finish!
