Today is Macaron Day...I wish I could've made some to celebrate but I'm still travelling and unable to bake or cook much. I spent the last 2 weeks in Myanmar where I discovered (and loved) fermented tea leaves salad but on the sweets side, I didn't really find anything I liked (although I'm sure Yangon has some good bakeries). I happened to eat in a tiny restaurant in the small town of Kalaw owned by a Burmese lady who studied culinary arts in Paris, how random! Food was amazing! Italian style because she explained it was hard to source ingredients to make French cuisine there. . #travellingbaker #myanmar #birmanie #myanmarfood #newsimplelifekalaw
I have now made crepes in Thailand The kitchen was even more basic than the one I had in India but that's what I love about crepes, it's easy and you can make them just about anywhere! First time I had pineapple jam! Tasty Unfortunately the cooking class I was supposed to take was cancelled so I didn't get a full experience but I learned bits and pieces about thai food these last 2 months. I was busy teaching English in a village and didn't have a proper kitchen so I gue...ss I'll have to come back some day! Moving on to Myanmar in a couple of days. Pretty excited to try the food there! . . #travellingbaker #foodtravel #crepes #frenchfood #campingfood See more
Enjoying a treat (out of this world banana & nuts soft cake) and iced chocolate in a cute coffee shop in the middle of nowhere! 30 minutes south of Chiang Mai, outside of the village of San Pa Tong, there are 3 artsy coffee shops serving tasty beverages (including real coffee!) This one (Baan Nok Cafe) also features a small organic salad garden and the owner is the sweetest lady! She speaks English and was happy to chat about her and her husband's woodcarving skills, her mother-in-law paintings, baking and the all-natural body care products they make A true gem. Happy Earth if you're ever in the area you should check them out! You probably have a lot in common.
A new "Paroles de Chef" is out on the blog! This time I met with Alice who told me all about how she came to open a French bakery in Kerala (south India) with her family! An inspiring story!
Pistachio and rose flavoured white chocolate with almond milk. I did some tests when we had the bakery but was never satisfied because it was always too sweet or too watery. I knew I wanted this recipe in my book and after a few more attempts I finally found the perfect combination Today is the last day to buy the eBook at special price! Treat your loved one to some delicious hot chocolate http://frenchmadebaking.com//ebook-hot-chocolat-by-french/ Fun fact: this drink was inspired by Medina cafe's heavenly pistachio-rose waffle dip.
In France, Februay 2nd is "crepes day" because we celebrate "la Chandeleur" by making crêpes (and eating lots of them)! Find the recipe on the blog: frenchmadebaking.com/recipes/crepes/
