Ontario Declares Second Provincial Emergency to Address COVID-19 Crisis and Save Lives Province Issues Stay-at-Home Order and Introduces Enhanced Enforcement Measures to Reduce mobility. Effective Thursday, January 14, 2021at 12:01 a.m., the government is issuing a stay-at-home order requiring everyone to remain at home with exceptions for essential purposes, such as going to the grocery store or pharmacy, accessing health care services, for exercise or for essential work. Th...is order and other new and existing public health restrictions are aimed at limiting people's mobility and reducing the number of daily contacts with those outside an immediate household. In addition to limiting outings to essential trips, all businesses must ensure that any employee who can work from home, does work from home. In response to the alarming and exceptional circumstances at hand, and to further interrupt the deadly trend of transmission in Ontario communities, hospitals, and long-term care homes, the government will enact the following additional public health measures: - Outdoor organized public gatherings and social gatherings are further restricted to a limit of five people with limited exceptions. This is consistent with the rules during the lockdown during the first wave of COVID-19 in spring 2020 and will allow individuals and families to enjoy time outdoors safely. - Individuals are required to wear a mask or face-covering in the indoor areas of businesses or organizations that are open. Wearing a mask or face covering is now recommended outdoors when you can't physically distance more than two metres. - All non-essential retail stores, including hardware stores, alcohol retailers, and those offering curbside pickup or delivery, must open no earlier than 7 a.m. and close no later than 8 p.m. The restricted hours of operation do not apply to stores that primarily sell food, pharmacies, gas stations, convenience stores, and restaurants for takeout or delivery. - Non-essential construction is further restricted, including below-grade construction, exempting survey. https://news.ontario.ca//ontario-declares-second-provincia

The Municipality of French River would like to acknowledge and thank the volunteers at the French River Fire Department for fixing the Christmas tree lights in Noëlville and Alban this evening. Our volunteers couldn’t have completed this work without the generosity from Robert Carriere at Northern Contracting for the use of his Genie Boom, and to Public Works for floating the equipment between towns to see the job through.

‘Tis the season to be COVID-safe. Here are a few tips to shop safely this holiday season. Be flexible and delay your shopping if you’re feeling unwell. Lim...it the number of stores you visit and the number of outings you make. Make a shopping list in advance to shorten the amount of time spent in each store. Try shopping during non-peak hours, or during special hours (for older adults, or for those who are immunocompromised). Shop locally at your favourite stores, or online. Stay COVID-safe by maintaining physical distance, wearing a face covering, and sanitizing your hands often. This holiday season is like no other; be patient, be kind, and be COVID-safe while you shop. Many businesses are gearing up for their busiest time of the year. Providing COVID-safe services to keep customers and employees safe is critical. Here are some... helpful tips for business owners and operators to reduce the risk this season: Ask employees to self-screen before their scheduled shift. If they have any symptoms of COVID-19 tell them to stay home and get tested. Encourage employees to monitor their own symptoms throughout the workday. If they become ill, they should self-isolate, and seek testing. Continue to promote frequent handwashing. Clean and disinfect surfaces often. Have customers and employees practise physical distancing while working, shopping, and waiting in line. All customers, clients, and visitors entering enclosed public spaces in Sudbury and districts must wear a face covering unless they have an exemption. Stay informed and continue to share information with your employees. Members of the #NipissingWestOPP wish to remind all parents, children and motorists to practice safety precautions to make the evening a memorable one. Childre...n and Parents: Carry a flashlight and select a costume with bright colours and reflective material to increase visibility to drivers. Use makeup instead of masks. Masks can reduce one's ability to see obstacles, vehicles and other people. Avoid baggy, long and oversized costumes that can be a tripping hazard. Walk, don't run and remember to stop, look and listen before crossing the street. Never criss-cross the street. Cross at crosswalks or intersections. Call on one side of the street, then the other. Never trick or treat alone, go with a buddy, in a group or with an adult. If trick or treating with friends tell your parents/guardians your route and when you will be home. Stay in familiar neighbourhoods and only go to homes that are well lit and that are participating in Halloween. Never go inside a stranger's house to get your treat. Always have your treats checked by an adult before eating them. Motorists: Drive slowly in residential areas where children are more likely to be trick or treating. Watch out for children, many of whom may be wearing costumes with masks that make it difficult for them to see. Children are excited; they may dart out in traffic. Remember that costumes can limit a child's vision and they may not be able to see your vehicle. Reduce your distractions and stay alert. Remember to enter and exit driveways slowly and carefully. Proceed with caution. Put down your phone for safety sake! Never drive while impaired! Click on this link for a fun & interactive game for children: https://billybuddy.ca/app/en/flash_launcher?which=halloween For more information on Halloween safety visit: https://kidsintheknow.ca//KIK_SafetyHabitsHalloween2019_en For more information on how you can celebrate Halloween in a COVID-safe way, visit the Public Health Sudbury & Districts website: https://www.phsd.ca/keep-covid-19-out-of-the-halloween-fri/ Consider printing one of the attached posters to let your neighbours know if you are handing out treats this year. ^mc

Remembrance Day 2020 - November 11, 2020 Today marked a very different Remembrance Day unlike any other ones we've ever witnessed. Nevertheless the event was c...arried on in a very different environment none better fitting than Verchères St Parkette (Cenotaph Location) in Noelville in the Municipality of French River. https://www.frenchriver.ca/ Some 30 people maintaining their distance to one another came at the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month to pay their respect to our veterans who have sacrificed so much to allow us to enjoy the freedom that we have today. Kudos to Jacques Bouffard and to all of those that have taken the time out of their busy schedule to put together this incredible memorial for all of us. Here are a few photos from the event.

Dr. Penny Sutcliffe shares her thoughts on COVID-19 and the flu season. It is important to get the flu shot every year as our immunity decreases over time and t...he influenza strain changes year over year. This year, the flu shot is more important than ever in protecting our health and our health care system. The flu season typically runs from November to April and it takes about two-weeks for us to develop immunity after receiving the flu shot. Please be patient as it is early in the season, so it takes some time for the vaccine to arrive. Be proactive and book an appointment now at your health care provider, Public Health, or your pharmacy. #PublicHealth #Sudbury #Manitoulin #COVID19
