One of the ways that addiction is described by Alcoholics Anonymous is with the phrase cunning, baffling and powerful. To those living with it, this expression certainly rings true.

Was a good day!

Congratulations to our very own Chris M on his 5 year milestone. Today is a very special day for me as I celebrate 5 years of sobriety. I'm forever grateful I ...made the decision to get clean and sober and that I took what I learned in treatment and applied the tools to my life. My journey has come 180 degrees and I am able to pass the teachings on through my role as an Addiction Counsellor at Fresh Start Recovery Centre. It feels awesome to be part of something meaningful and to trudge the road of happy destiny with a recovery family.

Happy 4 years Brian.....you fill our hearts and our bellies. We are so proud of you. 4 years may not seem long to some, but it feels like a lifetime ago that I... came through the doors of Fresh Start. The amount my life has changed over the last 4 years is mindblowing when I sit and reflect upon it. But I have not, and will not, ever forget where I came from and how I got here. Now, as the Head Chef of Fresh Start Recovery Centre, I not only get to show by example the effects of recovery in my life for the men coming in, I get to change the mindset towards "institution food" and breaking that mold. Birthday night was an incredibly special night with the Fresh Start Alumni surprising the March staff birthdays with milestone jerseys and celebrating them as h...onorary alumni. Congratulations to Jennifer, Bruce, and AJ. We are beyond blessed to do this work. Together we trudge the road of happy destiny. #gratefulrecovery

My scars remind me that I did indeed survive my deepest wounds. That in itself is an accomplishment. And they bring to mind something else, too. They remind me ...that the damage life has inflicted on me has, in many places, left me stronger and more resilient. What hurt me in the past has actually made me better equipped to face the present.
