Spontaneity was in Dan and Jaymee’s favour for their Sunshine Coast elopement! Not only did they book me within 24 hours of saying I do, but their casual, paper signing nuptials turned into a blue-skied ceremony. The couple was surrounded by close family, a wedding cake, champagne and floral arrangements right from the garden! A beautiful small wedding right here on the Sunshine Coast! It was a year ago I was watching all of my Aurora apps and happened to be in Kamloops. I scouted and planned a spot to photograph and this is one of the photos I captured that night. It is really just the most amazing experience to sit and watch the colors dance shift and move. This year has not been a great year for the #northernlights but I can tell you I’ll be chasing these for years to come! I'm super excited to share a few photos and blog of this awesome adventure engagement shoot. I managed to slip away to Banff recently - a much needed break from Covid isolation. It was wonderful to get on the open road and photograph again! This was my first big session back and I've blogged it! Please check it out, Banff really is one of the most breathtaking places! Stay tuned for more photos from this crazy gorgeous session I did for my friend Candice and Jordan. Candice is an accomplished equine photographer but wanted some of her and Jordan together. Not an easy task even with a tripod. So I was pretty excited to be able to get some shots that show who they are. They live and breathe the western way and work together towards training their amazing horses. I’ll be posting more but was excited to share a few sneak peaks!

Grad 2020! Honestly, I really feel for these kids. They really are missing a special time in their lives. Some of my fondest memories are of my last few months of high school, the parties and the ceremonies with all your peers. So eager to start their grown up lives. BUT you can still get in that dress and dance around, do your hair and makeup just right! It’s still a treasured time and this is not forever! I hope like heck someone plans a 5 year reunion and do it up right! #dvlop Karen Kraus

I did take a few photos today. I felt more like documenting what our day was like. It was a grey rainy day and so much harder to get something interesting inside. The kids love cuddling in gramma's bed first thing in the morning while watching Paw Patrol! Are you documenting your Covid-19 experience? This pandemic will go down as a huge time in our lives and one that will be taught in history class I'm sure. If you have school age kids, make it their school work to journal and add their pictures! Weddings are being cancelled, and during isolation we really should avoid all contact meaning I will not be considered an essential service. I can still be creative though! If you know me personally you will know that I have my two grandbabies while their parents quarantine after being out of the country so I will start sharing my daily photos with you! Just ticked off one of the seven Wonders of the World off my bucket list! If you’ve been following my travels in my IG story, you’ll know I was in Antelope Canyon yesterday. I always pack my tripod now so I can be in a few photos. (We’ve been many places in the world and sadly I’m not in many of my travel photos with my soulmate!) . And what a location to do engagement photos, elope or just explore! It really was an experience I will never forget! and I was able to gather a ton of information and scout areas because you can bet I’d love to shoot a session for someone here! Sunshine Coast has so much to offer for beautiful locations and adventures. Dakota ridge is one of my favorite spots to take clients for snow fun and something a little different. It’s rated one of the top 10 places in BC to snowshoe and there are groomed trails for cross country skier’s and the views of Howe Sound and the Salish Sea are just gorgeous if you make the round-trip and depending on which trails you take. There is a warming Quonset hut that you can warm up ...in after just bring your own hot chocolate! if you need more information you can Google it online and find out how to get there. Wow, it seems it was just a few weeks ago I did this session! Somehow a year has slipped by! Did you know I do maternity photo sessions? Since I photograph weddings, it also goes hand in hand that people also ask me to do maternity photos when they start their families. And I just love getting all creative, picking the location, helping to chose outfits and how its going down! And, I also keep a collection of maternity dresses for my clients. Doesn't Brooke look like the most amazing expectant goddess? We had spectacular conditions , with a little snow falling lightly - just dreamy! .

Ah, this surprise proposal session! It’s very special to me as my son asked me to help him plan to propose to Kayla. It was the best kept secret I’ve ever had to keep! And exciting. He chose a special day, the day that they officially started going out as boyfriend and girlfriend three years ago. And because they were in the Lower Mainland already we cooked up a special story to get her up Grouse Mountain at dark to capture the gorgeous night walk of lights and all the magic of snow. And wow. It will definitely be a day she will remember her whole life. I’ll be blogging this story soon so stay tuned! .

Kind of appropriate to post this photo today! Sometimes I like to get all dramatic. Play dress up, shoot creatively. Usually it’s with my friend @candice.camille my very talented equine photographer and second shooter. It’s where we can location scout, (try out locations new to us), practice with dresses, (how does the fabric flow?), does it add drama? It also puts me in the position of my clients. I don’t like my photos being taken and oh my, does it feel awkward to be on t...he other side of that camera. But I learn valuable things I can relay into my clients experience as well. My wise mentor once told me that your work will usually be recognized for your creative shots, not the work that you actually do on a regular basis. And yes, I tend to agree with him. It’s where there are no rules, lots of sessions never make the cut and we go home just a bit disappointed but learn what works and what doesn’t. We can take our time without worry of boring our clients or not looking like we know what we are doing. And we do crazy things like stand outside in a dress in -10c. Here it is! 2019 highlights. Most of the photos are personal with a bit of a mix from some of the weddings I photographed. Often I chose to practice my photography on my kids, horses and husband! Also, a few are self portraits which I hope to do more of! I was able to expand my knowledge so much this season with a lot of travel and a trip to Bali for an incredible workshop. Putting together my favourites of the year and found a whole folder I kind of forgot about that was not edited. So fun to find a few gems in the pile! Must get out more often, this was one of the last times I had time to get out and creatively shoot for myself and that was in June! New Years resolution is to not get so caught up in client work and to create for myself, to push ideas and practice working with the light! #selfportrait

Have you ever thought about how you’d like to marry? Possibly elope? When I talk to couples of their plans they often stress about what family and friends will think if they run away, just the two of them - like an old time elopement. My thoughts are to follow your heart. It’s your memories and your experience. You can make your wedding day anything you want! Have your dog, ride your horse or fly to the top of a mountain. You can have the best of both worlds and also have a... party when you return. I know my husband and I both wanted to elope (on a boat) but chose a smaller wedding with family and friends present. We still felt so strongly about saying our vows to each other so years later we also did a vow renewal for our 25th anniversary. It was the most amazing day and I will cherish those memories forever!
