One more shared from another walker today.
We had a beautiful morning at the Malcomson EcoPark! I love this place because even though it's definitely an urban park, it feels secluded and peaceful, and in many places you can't hear any traffic. It's also a thriving home for so many creatures, and the birds in particular were out in full force! There were many birders out, and I was encouraged by how kind they were despite the fact that our group likely scared a few of the birds away with our volume level! This walk is stroller friendly, and covers both meadow and forest. There's also an access path off the main trail to a great playground and splash pad, if your kids still have energy after their walk!
Come join us at Heartland Forest tomorrow at 10! We'll meet in the visitor centre and walk a short loop and play in the nature playground. We'll also bring some books to read together in the treehouse!
We had a fantastic morning at Heartland Forest, viewing the sun with the help of the Royal Astronomical Society, playing on the natural playground, and discovering wildflowers, turtles, frogs, baby mourning doves, ducks, geese, and red winged blackbirds!
We are heading to Heartland Forest around 11 am on Saturday to participate in the Royal Astronomical Society's family solar observation day! Let me know if you'd like to join us and we can meet you there! <3 My kids are excited, and I am too: I've never had a chance to safely view the Sun!
A red admiral friend gives a four year old a lesson in stillness and patience.
Dandelion art en plein air today!
Frog song season!
Another super cool event from the Hamiltom Naturalists' Club for those eager to learn more about birding! Hoping to take our 4 year old with me to this one! He and our 2.5 year old can identify a handful of birds correctly by their calls. What's your favourite bird or bird call? My favourite in the comments!
This looks like so much fun! Note that there is also a day event, for those with littles who can't stay up late, where you'll be able to use their safe solar viewing equipment to study the Sun. We will be going to that event around 11! I'm so sorry that I've been quiet in this group and that walks haven't been organized last week or this week. Our household has gotten hit by waves of flu and colds, so we've been hunkering down and focusing on healing up! Hope you all have been enjoying some time outside!
Instead of a walk tomorrow, we are meeting up this Friday at Beamer Memorial Conservation Area to participate in the Hawkwatch Open House!!! We are all so excited, preschoolers and adults alike. Let me know if you intend to come so we can wait for you in the parking area and arrange where we meet up. Have a wonderful week!
Now I reeeeeally hope we find some toads tomorrow!
Just a few moments from this morning's chilly but beautiful walk! We saw robins, red winged blackbirds, turkey vultures up close, and an old Lancaster to top it off. We cuddled new dog friends and went on the big slides. There was green starting to show itself, but the colours of the bare woods were still the main event: every colour of brown, or course, but also white, red, and purple. We practiced our balancing, found a pixie house, and, most importantly, gave ourselves the time and freedom for life and nature and beauty to reveal themselves to us. Come join us next week for more adventures!
I love this. See you all outside in half an hour!
No Wednesday Walk tomorrow since I have commitments! See you next week! <3
