DO YOU HAVE SPRING CLEANING ON YOUR MIND? Did you know that March 20 is Digital Cleanup Day? As spring is approaching, a lot of us are thinking about our lists and what we’d like to accomplish around our homes. I don’t know about you but clutter affects my mental health. When I catch a glimpse of things I may be putting off, it affects my mind. ... One task that’s been building up for me is my digital clutter and I’m reminded of it every time I open my inbox. I’m not great at deleting items in my inbox as I go and they accumulate. In the long run it takes more time to deal with. This is something I’m trying to get better at; dealing with things in a reasonable time rather than avoiding and prolonging. One thing I never thought about was the digital pollution that I’m contributing to. According to digital.worldcleanupday.org If we delete all unnecessary files, apps, photos and videos, we are not just saving a huge amount of CO2 but we are also extending the life of our gadgets, feel more balanced, and we take control over our lives, forge new digital habits, and we will be more efficient and satisfied. Sounds like a win-win! I may not have all of my digital clutter taken care of by March 20 but I am committing myself to spend some time this week organizing and deleting emails in my inbox. IT’S CLEANING DAY! Are you ready? Do your future self a favor and get ‘ready’ for cleaning day before you clean. Whether you have a service doing it or you’re doing it yourself. If you don’t already have systems in place, and your space is untidy, it can be difficult to clean and certainly can hinder your motivation for cleaning. ... Take a few minutes to corral your items; have a basket and walk through each space that will be cleaned, removing items that don’t belong. Tip: if the items belong to other members of your household let them know where the basket will be to collect their belongings and put them away themselves. We are happy to tidy your space but don’t always know where to put all of the things. You’ll appreciate your clean much more if you don’t have to contend with piles later. If you make this part of your daily or weekly routine your house will remain tidy, which will help your house appear cleaner in between cleans. Have your supplies stocked and clothes laundered ahead of time so they are ready when you are.
