Healing hands offer hope for Bondeni Bondeni was only a few days old when he was rescued, having been orphaned as a fragile new-born elephant. He had trudged fa...r, across rocky lava fields, in his search for family and his soft, tender footpads attested to his hazardous journey. We don’t know the reason why he became separated from his mother but you’ll be pleased to know that the community that found him called for help and, 20 months on from his rescue, he’s in the safest hands possible. In the time since, Bondeni has been receiving expert care from our Keepers, which has included paying special attention to his painful lacerated feet, and has grown into a plump baby that’s full of life and barely recognisable from the exhausted infant we rescued in 2019. Today he lives at our Nairobi Nursery where he is lapping up attention from the older females, relishing personalised mud baths and enjoying the mentorship of his peers. He’s already journeyed so far for an elephant so young but, at our Nursery, he is finding his footing and he will continue his journey back to the wild at one of our Reintegration Units when he is ready. Thank you all so much for your messages of unconditional love and support for our darling Mr Moo and the rest of the BLES family These photos capture Mr Mo...o trying his best to get back on his feet, but just not able to get a sure footing. The mahouts were able to slip harnesses underneath Mr Moo and attach them to the digger truck, which thankfully was able to help get Mr Moo standing again. It was touch and go and incredibly stressful - not to mention scary..... We are so thankful that Mr Moo trusted in us to help him and that he was willing to work with us.... Mr Moo is now recovering well, but gave himself a number of wounds, by straining and struggling to stand on his own. This means he is now needing in-depth medical treatments every morning for the foreseeable future.... We love our Magnificent Mr Moo very much and will do everything it takes to get him back to full health again! Il essayait te...llement de se tenir debout, mais comme il était couché dans une piscine de neige fondante, il était impossible pour lui de reprendre pied et de se relever ... Nous avons fait tout ce que nous pouvions pour le garder calme et confortable, pendant que nous attendions l'arrivée du camion-pelleteuse ..... Heureusement, nous avons pu le mettre debout et après quelques minutes, M. Moo a commencé à marcher vers BLES, où nous l'avons immédiatement mis sous fluides et soigné ses blessures ......Je partagerai les photos dès que possible, mais comprenez que mon équipe et moi n'avons pas arrêté ces dernières 48 heures et n'avons pas eu un clin d'œil de sommeil ....M.
