Earth Day is every day. It’s our home. It sustains our existence and the existence of all interconnected life Our species needs, and deserves, a citizenry with minds wide awake and a basic understanding of how the world works. - Carl Sagan ... The HMK Children’s Water Festival is our opportunity to inspire children with a unique approach to how the world works. Through educational, fun and hands-on activities, children open their eyes to the benefits of becoming wise stewards of water and related systems, challenged to consider the importance of water and climate change issues to human and environmental health. It is our humble opinion that education and awareness is the way to a brighter healthier future In our activity centre Up on the Watershed students are familiarized with watersheds, the effect of surrounding landscapes on the flow of surface water and the important role wetlands play in flood control. Students learn that flooding is a natural event but with climate change, erratic weather patterns are increased, resulting in more flooding activity. Using watershed models/simulators and sponges as their wetlands, children learn through hands on manipulation the natural attributes of wetlands and their value in decreasing flooding. Pretty neat right? . . . . #earthdayiseveryday #childrenswaterfestival #fundraiser #localcharity #hmkchildrenswaterfestival #sponsorship #myhaliburtonhighlands #waterprotection #waterconservation #watertechnology #waterscience #volunteers #sponsorshipopportunity #Water #waterislife #environment #environmentalism #environmentaleducation #stewards #environmentfriendly #environmentalhealth #education #educationiskey #educationispower #educationalfun #hydrology

This #thankfulthursday we’d like to turn the spotlight toward our dedicated Ocean Sponsor Trillium Lakelands DSB! Their donation will make it possible for over 1,000 students to travel to Kinark Outdoor Centre and take part in this year’s Children’s Water Festival thank you! Students, teachers, volunteers, parents, and presenters all benefit from this experiential learning experience in different ways. "The kids and I still talk about it (the festival). In our new Socia...l Studies unit we are learning about threats to our environment and how we can help prevent them (which also ties in with Science). They were recalling learning about water pollution and conservation at the Festival. How's that for proof that the Water Festival opened up their minds and helped us continue the dialogue? I'm delighted!" - Class at Riverside Public School, 2013 . . . . #childrenswaterfestival #sponsorship #fundraiser #localcharity #hmkchildrenswaterfestival #myhaliburtonhighlands #waterprotection #waterconservation #watertechnology #waterscience #volunteers #sponsorshipopportunity #Water #waterislife #environment #environmentalism #environmentaleducation #stewards #environmentfriendly #environmentalhealth #education #educationiskey #educationispower #educationalfun #hydrology
