The cabins will not be available for rental until June 14th, and some roads are still closed due to washouts which will be addressed as soon as possible. The roads to Mount Sagamook and Mount Carleton are both closed until repairs can be carried out.

Wow. This movie caused me to have dreams about being at the Nictau Lake Camps at Mount Carleton Park back before there were roads accessing the area. How many... home movies do you see from back in the 1930s? A rare 16 mm video from 1936 to 1944. Some things were simpler back then but most things were just more difficult. It was definitely a wilder time. If you don't have time to watch the full hour long movie then make sure you check out minute 51 where they hike to the top of Mount Carleton and Sagamook (called Bald Mountain in the movie). As you will see the clips were filmed and Narrated by Harriet Barney Lidgerwood as she visited the camps as a young girl with her family. The film includes several fishing excursions in the Nepisiguit and Tobique river systems. There are several clips of deer, a moose, a bear and other wildlife. There was also a hike to the fire tower at the top of Mount Carleton near minute 51 that shows the barren landscape surrounding the mountain as a result of a previous forest fire. The camps were accessed by canoe or by horses as the roads did not reach the lake until several years after these videos were made. Thank you to Josh Tompkins at Tourism NB - Parks Department for providing me this unique glimpse into the past and allowing me to share it with you. It definitely helps put me in the mindset to write my new guidebook on Mount Carleton Park. I hope you enjoy the movie as much as I have. All feedback is welcome. I plan on creating more videos this summer so if you haven't already check out my Youtube channel at https://www.youtube.com/playlist
You can help stop the snowmobile grooming hub at Mount Carleton Provincial Park. Mount Carleton has a zoning plan to prevent the development of new snowmobile trails in its most ecologically sensitive areas, but this zoning plan is being ignored. This means new snowmobile trails are being proposed for ecologically sensitive areas currently zoned for low intensity activities like back-country camping and hiking. Take action by donating to the Wolastoq Grand Council's legal challenge to the Mount Carleton snowmobile grooming hub. This will ensure that areas zoned for low-intensity recreational activities, like the walking trail leading to the summit of Mount Carleton, are not transformed into snowmobile trails. Excellent 360 degree view from the peak!
Another great one via Geoff Lawton's Friday five. Watch then go for a walk in the woods. UNE AUTRE à partir du courriel de Geoff. Regarder et aller prendre une marche dans la forêt.
There will be an open house in Saint Quentin on October 27th to discuss the Mount Carleton grooming hub and snowmobile trail project. The public is welcome to attend.
