Speeder Lost but not Forgotten: This speeder or motorcar once should at Coyekendahl a small railway siding along the Columbia and Western Trail. On a recent post on the Columbia and Western Trail page they acknowledge, that it was remove by them and claims it posed a risk to the public if so how? Why not a fence built around it or a sign to keep people off it. This speeder one of many that once traveled the railways and carried men and tools to all points along the railway ...line was donated in 2010 by Steven Rigby who was the trail manager for the local Rails to Trails society at that time. This section of railway is one the hardest and most challenging parts of building a railway line in Southern British Columbia. There was a lot of Blood, Sweet and Tears along this section of railway and I wanted to dedicate all the hard work these railway workers endured said Rigby. It should be return to its display track or return to the donor so he can find a suitable place for it for all to enjoy. Steven Rigby is hopeful this year it will again sit on its special built track, that trail volunteer’s built along the trail for it near Coykendahl. That it has been admired by the many that travel the trail each year. I hope the society brings it back No Questions Asked. It’s part of our local railway history of a bye gone era and should remain on the trail for all of us to enjoy now and into the future said Rigby. The speeder car display went missing last year and has not been returned to the site and a recent post about the missing speeder has raised questions on its disappearance for some time now.

We knew this was coming from the outfall of the decision made by the province to share the trail with industrial users. Some of the blame on this should go to the City of Castlegar for not taking a proactive approach and taking the concerns of many local citizens seriously with a letter to the Province to save the Columbia & Western trail.
