I’m going to be talking about this a lot over the next months, but I’ve joined a sponsorship circle to help bring a young Middle-Eastern woman to Canada. Amal (not her real name) is a young professional woman who is living in fear and danger because of her sexuality. I imagine that she is like a young woman you or I know and love- our sister, niece, daughter or friend. The circle I belong to, Friends Beyond Borders, is working to bring her to Vancouver, so that she can have... the chance for a life of safety and freedom. We need to raise $25,000 to get her here and settled through a sponsorship programme run by the Rainbow Refugee Society in partnership with the Canadian government. Canada is the only country in the world that runs such a programme.
