Dear Ghosts and Goblins, With restrictions on gatherings we are sad to announce that we will be unable to hold the annual Halloween Pumpkin Walk at Foster Park. Last year we had 476 pumpkins lining the trails carved by students in Parksville! This year if you have a pumpkin you have carved please send us a photo to [email protected] and we would love to display it on our Facebook page. ... Wishing our community a wonderful fall season!! ~ The Friends of Foster Park ~

This is a neat idea! Anyone want to play? Let’s paper our community with hearts to show love, kindness and solidarity. Hey Neighbours! HEART HUNT #putyourheartondisplay... Over the next few weeks, many of us will be increasing our time spent at home. If you have young children it can be hard to find things to do all day and not lose your mind. So I was thinking about a way for our community to still get outside and do something fun, without touching or coughing on each other. I thought it’d be fun to have a city wide Heart Hunt! All you have to do is put a heart in your window! That’s it! Color it, paint it, cut it out, print it from the printer, whatever. Then we can get outside, walk around and see how many we can find! It’s easy. No human contact. Get fresh air. Just put a heart in your window.

WE DID IT!!! We have raised over $5,000 to plant 25 trees to celebrate our 25th anniversary in 2020. We want to sincerely thank everyone who has helped us not only reach but surpass our goal! Not only will the City be planting 25 trees in the Pym/Sanderson Road area but we raised enough to plant 1,000 seedlings in the forested area as well! ... Some of our new green neighbours will be arriving this spring. Others will be arriving in the fall. Thank you City of Parksville for working with us on this initiative!

City crews and contractors are working in Foster Park this week to remove a number of dead, drying or compromised trees. This work is part of the City’s ongoing... tree maintenance program and upgrades to Foster Park. Work is expected to continue through the spring and include irrigation upgrades and tree planting and will be re-seeded later this year. The Friends of Foster Park Society are aware of the work to be completed and through a campaign, have raised funds to plant 25 trees for the Society’s 25th anniversary. Questions should be directed to the City’s operations department at 250 248-5412 or [email protected]

Wow! We are so incredibly grateful for all the donations that came in today as part of #GivingTuesday to support our initiative. With your generosity we raised over $1,000 today and are over half way to our $5,000 goal. With the money we will be planting 25 trees in Foster Park in celebration of our 25th anniversary in 2020. If you are thinking about donating there are two options and tax receipts are available:... you can donate to the Friends of Foster Park online at www.canadahelps.ca, a secure website that will also email you a tax receipt, or send us an email at [email protected] and a board member will be happy to come pick up a cheque or cash and provide a tax receipt.

Today is #GivingTuesday. TODAY ONLY you can make your gift go even further. All donations of $25 or more made through CanadaHelps.ca will have an additional $5 added to their donation (ends at 6:59pm PST today). We are coming up on our 25th anniversary in 2020 and want to celebrate by planting 25 trees in Foster Park. The City of Parksville is supporting this effort by providing the trees at cost. These will be good sized trees that have a 5-6 cm trunk diameter and therefore cost approximately $200 a tree. The City will plant and maintain the trees so that they have the best chance of success. However, we need YOUR help to get us to our goal. Please consider donating today. ... If you would like to donate there are two options: you can donate to the Friends of Foster Park online at www.canadahelps.ca, a secure website that will also email you a tax receipt, or send us an email at [email protected] and a board member will be happy to come pick up a cheque or cash and provide a tax receipt. Adding new trees to Foster Park will enhance the beauty of the park and provide health benefits for all of us to enjoy now and for many years to come.
