Friends of Sandbanks 04.06.2021

April 1st, 2021 Visitors to the Sandbanks were stunned this morning by the sudden appearance of a mysterious granite obelisk, almost 18 metres tall and estimated at over 90 metric tonnes on the shores of Dunes Beach at West Lake. Similar to other instant structures found in Utah in 2020, the origin of this latest stone monument is a mystery.... When questioned about the arrival of this unexpected monolith, Park spokesperson Avril Phüeliss stated: We hope that this new attraction will bring more visitors into our underused Park this summer!

Shore Acres on West Point Formerly located at the east corner of County Road 12 as it bends away from Lake Ontario heading north, and just south and opposite the former Hyatt House, this property operated as a tourist lodge from 1925 - 1945 with Amos and Emma (Hyatt) MacDonald, from about 1945 - 1967 by William and Eva May (Cleave) Wight, and from 1967 to 1976 by Donald and Margaret (Rhodes) Rombough. A Reminiscence of the Hepburn - Ackerman Cottages Nancy Ackerman Otterway Our West Point Cottage area was a narrow strip of about mile in length along the south facing shore of the point. A wire fence with a convenient gate separated our area from the no-man's land between Lakeshore Lodge and us.
