The next Speaker Showcase is Jukipa Kotierk! #AYNSpeaks Join us on Thursday October 29th for the first session of the Arctic Youth Network Webinar Series! More ...info here: https://www.facebook.com/events/276264386816367/ Jukipa Kotierk is an Inuk, Quechuan with ties to Ecuador residing in Iqaluit, Nunavut, Inuit Nunaat (Inuit Homelands in what is currently called Canada). Having grown up in Nunavut most of her life her passion stems from working with her Inuit communities through life promotion and suicide prevention work. As part of the queer community, she has also helped to co-developed a closed BIPOC space for queer youth in Iqaluit known as Ivviulutit. Which loosely translates from Inuktitut to English as ‘To be as you are.’ Ivviulutit stives to create supportive space for learning, creativity workshops and connection. Jukipa hopes to uplift and encourage young Inuit to take up space, through reclaiming and demanding that their voices to be heard, and actively listened to. Currently exercising her right to claim space, she is doing community work with a focus on life promotion and suicide prevention through her involvement with We Matter as an Ambassador of Hope, and Co-Developer of Ivviulutit. She hopes to increase engagement, and excitement for life amongst Inuit youth to help build a sense of belonging that is culturally relevant, as well as build upon existing communities of support. Jukipa works towards doing what she can in her capacity to contribute to mental health and wellness in a holistic approach. Mindful of capacity, Jukipa also acknowledges that her worth is not defined by how productive society deems her to be and wants to create space for people to honour their feelings, limits, and time. You can find her swimming, singing and creating memories with friends and family when she's not occupied with community projects. #arcticyouthnetwork #mentalhealth
