A big thank you to William Brennan for his recent donation. This St. Thomas High "NB Hockey Champs 1966-67" jacket belonged to John Brennan, a well loved and respected supporter of all Miramichi sports....especially St. Thomas and JMH hockey!
Recently donated: a beautifully decorated scene of Wellington Street,Chatham, looking east (circa...1910). In the photo, St. Luke's Methodist Church can be seen. This is the current site of our Miramichi History Museum, as seen in the recent photo.
From the Lew Dickson Collection: A photo album page, dated 1910, with some extremely unique/rare photos of Chatham buildings. Very few photos exist of the construction of St. Michael's Basilica. Included in this collection is the original copy of one of these rare images. Also included are pictures of the Alms House, the Miramichi Agricultural Exhibition Building (taken from the rear), the Grammar School (also a rare view/angle), the Chatham Town Hall and a picture of some unknown building...probably taken on Water Street.
After much deliberation and discussion, the board members of the Miramichi History Museum have decided the museum will not open for the 2020 season. We did not feel confident that, as a small group of volunteers, we could maintain the constant preparedness, etc. required as a result of the current Covid-19 situation. We will return for the summer of 2021, and will try to maintain a more visible on-line presence in the meantime. Thanks, everyone, for your continued support and take care.
A big thank you to the thirty plus people who came out for Cyril’s presentation on Irish immigration to the Miramichi. Very informative and entertaining. Til’ the next time....see you at the museum!
Monday, March 9th at 7 PM, Cyril Donahue will be speaking, at the Miramichi History Museum, on "The Irish Immigration to Miramichi". This presentation is open to all. See you at the museum! (182 Wellington St.)
Another excellent year comes to an end. The Miramichi History Museum is now closed for the season. We'd like to thank everyone who visited from all over the world! Also, a special thank you to those who donated such wonderful items, many that will soon be featured on this site. For any inquiries during the off season, please message us via this page or call 778-4050. Thanks!!
A great new acquisition for our museum...an original oil painting by Monsignor R.M. Hickey. This painting was actually featured in his book, "My Hobbies Three". Msgr. Hickey was the chaplain for the North Shore Regiment during WWII, and wrote the well known "The Scarlet Dawn", recounting his days with the regiment and their famous landing on D-Day. Stop by the Miramichi History Museum and check out this and many more interesting Miramichi artifacts.....only a few weeks left to the summer season. See you at the museum!
