Well, my Thursday night is full. Shucking peas. I guess that makes me a mother shucker??

So it begins again. Big day. On schedule with most things, this year I am focusing on planting our personal supply, and selling any surplus. We might have some kale, peas, and carrots for sale this season, I will post on here if anything comes available. As in the last few years we are still prioritizing on family (as growing enough for markets or CSAs is a huge time and energy commitment) and quality time with our Benny, who is 7 now and starting to help. In another couple o...f years I can use child labour and we'll be selling veggies everywhere!! The other focus this year is developing new, big, beds and planting cover crops to enrich the soil and keep weeds down, over the last few years a big area of the garden has become feral, but the soil as a result is gorgeous, and so many earthworms! This from an area that was all mixed forest just 5 years ago. Not bad. So in creating these large arable garden beds this year we may very well have more to offer the public in the season of 2018. We'll see how it all unfolds See more

One of the raspberry patches before and after pruning. Guess what I see when I close my eyes? That's right, raspberry canes. Burned into my eyelids. In fact I nearly took an eye out with one last week. Not recommended. This year we're off to a running start in spite of the colder weather. I love this time of year before the bugs and the inevitable sweat palace that my bug repelling uniform becomes when the sun is blasting but the bugs are still biting. Funny, I love that swe...at palace too, when I am not hating it. The soil is becoming so rich, the garden beds seem to be looking for us this year, like we've tamed an unruly beast. Which is I guess what we've done, turning a piece of the forest into garden. Things are happening with ease this year so far, who knows, we may even hang the "fresh produce" sign. That would be damn nice. Next year for sure, but we'll get there when we get there.
