Dear Friends We often hear I want to help women who are struggling in my local community but I don’t know how? The answer is United Way Perth-Huron’s Women... United program. We (21 women from across seven regions) are organizing our first ever Women United virtual event on November 6, 2020 to engage guests across our communities and the attached poster explains what we are doing and why! We want to mobilize like-minded guests who wish to support women who are struggling in Stratford, St. Marys, Perth & Huron to let them know that help is here for them! Your $ 35. ticket will secure your #locallove swag bag (porch dropped safely to your residence) and the event link to watch our DEBx Talk (like a TEDx Talk) from 8-9 pm on November 6, 2020 with Laura Morlock, PhD, as she addresses the She-Cession & How Women Lost 30 Years in Six Months. (If you have friends out of the Perth-Huron area, tickets are $ 25.) I hope you will be inspired to join with me to be a Women United donor so we can raise $ 100,000 to support counselling, shelters and the Urgent Needs fund for women in Perth-Huron. At United Way, our philosophy is your money stays were it is donated, so no matter what region you live in (Stratford & Area, St. Marys & area, North Perth, Perth East, Goderich & Area, Exeter & Area or Wingham & Area) your donation stays in your community to help the local women who live there! As my friend, family member or colleague, please join me in participating in what is going to be a history-making event for women in Perth & Huron, Stratford & St. Marys! Sincerely, Heather

Huron Out of the Cold: Heart to Home FAQ How is Huron Out of the Cold: Heart to Home different than the previous Out of the Cold program? The previous Out of the Cold program had a mandate to provide emergency shelter for those individuals in need of cold weather supports. This mandate was effectively met during the shelter’s time in operation. Huron Out of the...Continue reading

First of all a big thank you to all of our wonderful community members who came out to help on Monday A couple of the residents of the building on Main Street (known as the Dinney building) will be there tomorrow morning moving the remainder of their personal belongings. If you are able to help carry things or have a truck that could be used to move things to storage please consider taking a couple hours of your morning to help out. There will be somebody there at 9:...00 am. If you are able to help please remember that safety is still important during this pandemic, we strongly recommend masks and gloves. Andrea and I are not able to be there tomorrow morning but there will be a few others there helping. Thank you again for all of the community support. This is what community is...neighbours caring for one another

Today was such a sad hard day. We all knew it was going to be hard. We all knew that having a housing shortage is a major crisis. We all knew that mental healt...h becomes a major concern when there is not stable housing. But we still were not prepared. Prepared to watch our fellow community members having to choose which of their belongings they were going to take. Prepared to watch pet owners in tears as they had to say good bye to their fur babies who had to be put into foster care. Prepared to brace yourself every time your phone rang hoping it was good news. Prepared to pray every time a text came in hoping it was that through some miracle one of our many partners working with us had found an apartment. Prepared to watch our clients organize storage units filled with their belongings slowly close the door and walk away. We all thought we were prepared. But we werent.

We are at the Dinney building helping the residents move out and we need some helpers to move stuff downstairs....if you're free and able to help please come by!

From Street2Feet 31.05.2020

A BIG THANK YOU to all of our community members who have come forward to volunteer to help move on Monday. As a reminder we still need to be aware of COVID safety guidelines. If you plan to come and help please make sure you get in touch with us and let us know so that we can be careful of our numbers. In addition, if you have access to gloves and masks we ask that you wear them. We will also have masks and gloves available. Thank you for your support!

Calling all compassionate and generous South Huronians. We are getting quite good at supporting one another in times of need- and this need is rather critical. 5 individuals in Exeter are being left homeless after their affordable housing units have been condemned, and they are being evicted effective June 29th. ... The local organization From Street2Feet, along with the County of Huron are working diligently to find homes and support for these people. But, in the meantime, there is a temporary need to provide food and shelter for these displaced individuals. IF YOU ARE ABLE, YOU CAN HELP BY: Make a donation through Go Fund Me to help From Street2Feet pay for temporary housing, food, storage for personal belongings, etc https://www.gofundme.com/f/street-to-feet-support Help with the moving process- visit the Street2Feet Facebook Page for more info If you are aware of local affordable housing, please contact From Street2Feet Grocery Gift Cards can be dropped off at Noah's Ark in Exeter South Huron... let's come together once again. A little bit from a lot of us makes a HUGE impact. (Please share this post too... sharing is caring)

We just want to take a moment to express our gratitude and appreciation for The County of Huron, CMHA Middlesex Exeter Site, Andrea Loohuizen from Noah's Ark, Krista McCann and the community members who have been working tirelessly to support and find solutions for our community members who are facing eviction this coming Monday.

From Street2Feet 05.05.2020

Six apartment units in a downtown building were given 3 weeks notice to vacate the building by June 29th. Local agencies and the County of Huron are working wi...th the tenants to make arrangements for them to have a roof over their heads but with such a short time line it is difficult to make everything happen by the 29th. We are asking the community to help support our neighbours! Five of the tenants still have nowhere to go so if you know of any options please contact us. Storage units have been secured for their belongings but we need help in moving their belongings out of the building before the doors are locked and the tenants are faced with forcible removal. If you are able to volunteer, we need help moving the tenant's belongings out on Monday, June 29. For more information please contact us through the Street2Feet Facebook page.

Only when diverse perspectives are included, respected, and valued can we start to get a full picture of the world: who we serve, what they need, and how to suc...cessfully meet people where they are. Daring leaders fight for the inclusion of all people, opinions, and perspectives because that makes us all better and stronger. That means having the courage to acknowledge our own privilege, and staying open to learning about our biases and blind spots. It is also listening, centering, and honoring stories that reflect experiences that are different than our own. Courage is listening, learning, unlearning, knowing when to lead, and knowing when to let others lead.
