Frontenac Friesians participated in the Kingston Night time Santa Claus Parade on November 22, the Sydenham Santa Claus Parade November 29th and Harrowsmith Parade on December 6th. The horses were AMAZING - we had Lyske in the lead on the carriage, Viktor (Lyske's 2014 colt) close behind, then Andy being ridden and her 2014 colt Dave, then Sunday (Lyske's 2013 filly) being led and then Joe Black (Andy's 2011colt) being ridden/led. I had a wonderful dedicated group of volunteers. We started meeting and practicing in October and had two rehearsal parades down my road in Harrowsmith. So very proud of our group. Merry Christmas Everyone.

Home late tonight from the Ontario Friesian Keuring. Our Viktor G. was awarded a 3rd Premium. I'm afraid I did not prepare him enough for this showing. We travelled five hours on Monday night, stalled he and Lyske for the night and then his first outing was to the ring. He was so wound up he would not stand still and would not walk nicely. Our movement scores were 6 for walk and 6.5 for trot - we needed an avg of 6.5 for second premium. My mistake and certainly a learni...ng experience. On a better note, he scored 7.5 for Racial Type, 6.5 for his Frame and 7 for his Development (meaning for his age he is developing nicely). A score of 6.5 is average. We were stabled across from the family that breed Lyske and they were pleased to see her and were very friendly and helpful. I feel blessed being in the same company as the large family breeders from Western Ontario. The Vanderkooy's of Kettle Creek Friesians, Vander Kooi's of T&T Friesians and the Steenbeek's of Stonecreek Friesians were all so welcoming and friendly and helped us and sat with us and we all talked tales of our Friesian experiences. Definitely a Friesian lovers dream!!! And, congratulations to Kettle Creek Friesians for having two Stallions selected for recommendation for further consideration to the KFPS. Many thanks to my Friesian loving/owning friend Rachel Mahoney for her support, company and help for the past two days. And, for anyone travelling to Ancaster and looking for a place to stay, please look up Bill Bell at Ridgemoor Bed and Breakfast. Very nice clean place to stay with wonderful food and very good company. Stay tuned for pictures....... See more

Today we are packing up and heading to the Ontario Friesian Keuring (Inspection). Judges come from Holland each year and travel a North American circuit to judge the "A" Book purebred Friesians. This is a two day event being held at the Ancaster Fairgrounds in Jerseyville, Ontario and hosted by the Ontario Friesian Horse Association. Two days of purebred Friesians of all ages. Our colt Viktor G.(Doaitsen 420 Sport x Jorrit 363) born June 19, 2014 will be judged tomorrow. ... Hoping for a premium for this robust fellow. His full brother, Gus KCF was awarded a 1st premium and won Colt AND Youth Champion in 2010. Let's hope Viktor follows family tradition :) Remembering, of course, that in the whole scheme of life, this is a fun hobby and not a necessity of life. The best part is being surrounded by black horses and friendly people with the same hobby (and of course the pancakes promised by Ridgemoor Bed and Breakfast). See more
