Yesterday, with 65 participants we completed the first Youth Climate Action Summit! You may have asked yourself "what is a day at Farm and Forest School like in the Winter?" Here are some of the wonderful things we do at school: Child-directed play and exploration Place-based, Land-based, and Play-based learning Feeding farm animals Planting edible gardens (we have a Greenhouse for the Winter) The Forest Kitchen Exploring the Friendly Forest Cooking with local food Community Story Telling Seasonally specific: tobogganing, snowshoeing, building snow shelters, building fires, Winter Animal Tracking, Winter Birding, and seasonally inspired crafts including sewing, knitting, and so much more.

A big shout out to all of our dedicated volunteers, excited participants, and of course our winged neighbours of the Frontenac Arch Biosphere for make the CBC4Kids 2020 a FABulous success. 16 families participated in the count this year, spotting over 360 birds (15 species) between our 2 sites (Landon Bay and Mac Johnson). Thank you to everyone who tuned in for last week’s episode of Striking Balance, which featured the Frontenac Arch Biosphere. We would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge and thank the amazing organizations and communities mentioned in the episode. These organizations and communities support the sustainability of the Frontenac Arch Biosphere Region and the programs delivered by the FABN, including the FAB Nature Camps! The Frontenac Arch Biosphere is situated on the... ancestral lands of the Haudenosaunee and the unceded Algonquin Anishinaabe territory. We acknowledge, with gratitude and respect, the significant contribution Indigenous people have, and continue to make, on these lands. Frontenac Arch Biosphere Foundation - Established the original FAB Nature Camp at Landon Bay. Due to the success of the original program, there was 2 more camps that were opened! Special thanks to John Macleod who has been the driving force behind this program. https://www.fabfoundation.ca/ Leeds Grenville Stewardship Council - Created animal habitats throughout the Biosphere, including the Turtle Nest Protectors (which can be seen in the episode). Parks Canada Deliver outreach programs to the community, including 3 of our FAB Nature Camp locations (seen in the episode). https://www.pc.gc.ca/en/index Ontario Turtle Conservation Centre The only Turtle Treatment Trauma Centre in Ontario. Many of the injured turtles from the Frontenac Arch Biosphere are sent here for treatment! They can be seen in the episode delivering one of their outreach programs (the close ups of the turtles). https://ontarioturtle.ca/ Think Turtle Conservation Initiative Turtles Signs Project (the green turtles you can see in the episode). https://thinkturtleconservationinitiative.wordpress.com/ Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands - Kendrick's Park was featured a number of times in the video and this camp is located in the Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands. They are also the reason we were able to install turtle nest protectors at this site. The 9:30am Workshop is FULL. ***Please note that workshops have been designed for Youth between 8-17 years old, as an extension of the RNJ Youth Services "Community Kit" Project. We have created a waitlist for children 7 and under and we can accommodate them at some of the locations. If you have a child (ren) 7 and under, please still contact us and we will do our best to fit them in, where/when it is appropriate to do so.

Although we cannot gather in person to share our bird stories and tallies at the CBC4Kids this year, we can still share them. Join us on Saturday December 12th at 2:30pm (CBC4Kids will take place from 9:30-11:30am) and share your stories, pictures, and bird tallies. We have guests from Parks Canada, the Breeding Bird Atlas, and local birding groups, to answer all of your bird questions and share their love for birds with you.
