Did you get a chance to join us for our last session of Science Saturdays? Our theme was animals. Phil read "We Don't Eat our Classmates" by Ryan T. Higgins. Then Katherine, a volunteer from Let's Talk Science at UOttawa and CarletonU, taught us about hearing and made animal ears with us! The demand for homework help in Ottawa has increased significantly since the beginning of the pandemic. As of now, Frontier College Ottawa has a team of nearly 100 volunteers who tutor learners online on a weekly basis to help them with their reading and writing skills as well as with their homework across a variety of subjects in both official languages. The volunteers pictured below all joined our team between November 2020 and January 2021 and have been dedicating some o...f their time weekly ever since. Thank you for making it possible to offer online homework help during this time! From left to right and top to bottom: Ines, Soumya, Lucas, Taylor, and Nathan. We received *so many* pictures after our last session of Science Saturdays with Let's Talk Science in Ottawa! It's great to see everyone's crafts. We had so much fun! We built beaver dams to learn about beavers and their role in the ecosystem. Which dam do you think could best withstand the elements? #frontiercollege #letstalkscience #learningforlife #literacymatters #scienceliteracy

Did you get a chance to join us this past weekend for Science Saturdays? We read "A Hungry Lion and a Dwindling Assortment of Animals" by Lucy Ruth Cummins. It was quite a mystery trying to figure out why all the animals were disappearing! So many twists and turns! After the story, Katherine, a volunteer from Let's Talk Science in Ottawa, made beaver lodges with us to learn about beavers and their effect on ecosystems! Make sure to join us next weekend for more stories and c...rafts! #frontiercollege #learningforlife #literacymatters #letstalkscience #scienceliteracy Frontier College / Collège Frontière (Official)

Happy Friday! Check out this hilarious video of B.J. Novak reading from his book "The Book with No Pictures." Your kids will roll on the floor with laughter. We certainly did! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZwY5BeYcyo #frontiercollege #literacymatters #learningforlife #readingtime

At the end of our last session of Science Saturdays with Let's Talk Science in Ottawa, we held a bit of a competition to see who could design paper columns that would hold the most weight. While these are all impressive, being able to stand on your columns makes you a clear winner! #frontiercollege #letstalkscience #literacymatters #learningforlife #scienceliteracy Frontier College / Collège Frontière (Official)

Here are some screenshots from this past weekend's session of Science Saturdays with Let's Talk Science in Ottawa on engineering. Phil from Frontier College Ottawa read one of his favourite stories, "The Darkest Dark" by Col. Chris Hadfield. Then, Sandra, a volunteer with Let's Talk Science in Ottawa, led us in testing different shapes to learn about strength, structure, and stability. We ended with a bit of a contest to see who could design cylindrical columns that could ho...ld the most weight. Don't forget to send it pictures of your results and we'll post them tomorrow! #frontiercollege #literacymatters #learningforlife #letstalkscience #scienceliteracy Frontier College / Collège Frontière (Official)
