Dear Parents & Guardians, On July 30, 2020 Manitoba Education announced plans for classroom learning to resume in September 2020. In summary: In-class learning will resume for all students on September 8. Teachers return on September 2.... Kindergarten to Grade 8 students and those with special needs will return to five days of in-class instruction a week. Students in Grades 9-12 will return to up to five days of in-class instruction, if high schools can effectively implement physical distancing and the use of cohorts (designated groups of students/learning groups). Some partial remote learning for high school students may be expected. Communication, screening, enhanced hand hygiene, physical distancing, use of cohorts and outbreak management will be important in keeping as many students as possible in schools this fall and throughout the pandemic. As noted in the Provinces news release, the best place for students is in class, giving them the full benefits of the tremendous work of Manitoba teachers and providing parents and caregivers with certainty that their children are receiving the best education possible. Senior administration is currently finalizing details on return to school as final documents are expected from the government this week. Yours truly, Reg Klassen Chief Superintendent

The change was swift, and our personal and professional lives have not been the same since. Our world has been alt...Continue reading

Frontier Mosakahiken School students have been pretty busy. Casey, a Kindergarten student has been completing her colorful assignments. Roderick, a Grade 1 student, took some time learning how to bake at home with his cousin Lorna in Grade 10. Roderick is a very big fan of Sonic the Hedgehog! And Kiefan, a Grade 5 student, took some time to go fishing with his family and he caught a big one!... We love seeing all the different educational experiences that our students are taking on with happiness and excellence.

The Indigenous Way of Life team gathered at Kildonan Park on June 2 to create smudge sticks with Jaime Grasby (Black Thunderbird), a traditional medicines gift-giver originally from Sagkeeng. The workshop was opened with a smudge and Jaime shared the traditional teachings and recommended uses behind each medicine. The team collectively put together smudge sticks for the Language and Land-based teachers across the division to honour and show our appreciation for the innovative ways they have continued to support Indigenous Education for each student across FSD.

Today is National Indigenous Peoples Day. Though many events are postponed, you can take the time to do some reading about Indigenous history, talk to knowledge keepers, download an Indigenous language app, or send a kind message to someone who is leading Indigenous Education or a Community Champion. Continue to widen your Indigenous Circle of Relatives!

Parents play an essential role in our Frontier Family and we value their love and commitment during these times. Noreen and Derrick Sanderson are from Moose Lake and they support their three children Norbert, Deena and Deneekia by ensuring that they sit down for one hour of school work every day. They value education and recently purchased an iPad for their children to have access to online educational programs. Keep up the great work Noreen & Derrick!
