Our Frootogo Family has been deeply moved by the outreach and responses from you, our loyal customers. We thoroughly enjoyed reading all the heartfelt well wishes and accolades about your farm visits. We wish to thank you all for such an outpouring of beautiful comments and compliments. It was very evident in your replies that our soup would be greatly missed. After careful consideration, we have decided to continue with our soup and bakery offerings and run this business und...er the ‘Souptogo’ name. We anticipate being open for the fall season and offering our Play-Park area. The bakery store will offer our line of homemade soups and a selection of the baked goods you have come to love. We are still working out the fine details but are really excited about this new chapter for us. We invite you to start following us on our new Facebook page. AFTER 39 YEARS OF FARMING TOGETHER, GROWING, SELLING, AND MARKETING, QUALITY FRUIT, AND VEGETABLES, BERT AND WILLY HEKMAN HAVE MADE THE VERY VERY DIFFICULT DECISION TO CLOSE FROOTOGO ORCHARDS. A BUSINESS THEY CREATED ALONG WITH THEIR DAUGHTER AND TRULY LOVED. BERT HEKMAN CAME TO CANADA FROM HOLLAND IN 1972 WITH A DREAM OF BUYING A PIECE OF LAND SPECIFICALLY TO GROW APPLES. THINGS DID NOT HAPPEN OVERNIGHT. BERT WORKED FOR THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND PRUNED FOR OTHER FRUIT FAR...MS IN THE LONDON AREA. ALL THE WHILE SAVING, AND ALONG THE WAY, HE MET WILLY. THEY MARRIED HAD A DAUGHTER AND THEN MADE A BOLD MOVE TO P.E.I. THERE THEY BOUGHT A STRAWBERRY/ CHICKEN FARM, AND RENAMED IT CACKLEBERRY FARM. IT WAS FULL STEAM AHEAD AND A LOT TO LEARN, BUT LIFE WAS GOOD. FIFTEEN YEARS LATER, ONTARIO CALLED US BACK, AND SO WE BOUGHT A RUN DOWN HORSE FARM ON PARKSIDE DRIVE WATERDOWN. THIS WAS MORE WORK, BUT SURELY ENOUGH AFTER PLANTING THE TREES, AND NURSERY, PLUS OTHER CROPS, FROOTOGO WAS HOME. WILLY ALWAYS LOVED COOKING AND BAKING, AND SO OVER THE YEARS A BAKERY WAS ADDED AND WILLY COULD SERVE UP HER AWARD WINNING SOUPS ALONG WITH THE CHEDDAR BAY BISCUITS. "FROOTOGO CONTINUED TO GROW, OPENING THEIR DOORS TO THE MULTITUDES, PROVIDING THE BEST OF THEIR LABORS, WHETHER IT WAS THE SOUPS OR THE APPLES, OR THE JOY OF AN AFTERNOON AT PLAYPARK BERT AND WILLY WANT TO SAY A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL THOSE MULTITUDES, AND ESPECIALLY TO ALL THE REGULAR CUSTOMERS, FOR YOU KNOW YOU ARE ANYTHING BUT REGULAR, WHO SUPPORTED AND BELIEVED IN OUR LOCAL ENDEAVORS. WE WILL MISS YOU. BERT AND WILLY ALSO WANT TO THANK ALL STAFF OVER THE YEARS, ESPECIALLY ALL WHO HELPED AND WORKED WITH US TO MAKE FROOTOGO SUCH A WONDERFUL LOVING AND SHARING PLACE.
