We received this beautiful pic and message from Alycia, whose daughter Amaya recently celebrated a Birthday at Children’s Hospital in Winnipeg. Thanks so much for sharing this with us Alycia- we are so happy that we were able to help brighten Amaya’s special day From Alycia: ‘Amayas 8th birthday was on June 16th, the one gift that she wanted for her birthday was to be able to go home. Thankfully this was approved for the following weekend but not on her exact day. We have ...been in the children’s hospital in Winnipeg since February 23, 2020. I cannot say thank you enough to The Frosting Foundation, you made Amaya feel like one of a kind. She felt like the most important person in her unit, her door was decorated with unicorns in mind (she is obsessed with unicorns) how the unicorn decorations happened I don’t know. But to say it was perfect is an understatement. It brought tears to my eyes, knowing that someone that doesn’t even know my daughter did this for her. Every single nurse, doctor, therapist that seen her door came in and wished her happy birthday, because how could you miss those beautifully hand crafted decorations! At the end of the day she looked at me and said who knew having a birthday at a hospital would be so much fun. To this day the flower tassels are still hanging on her door.’

After much discussion and thoughtful consideration, our Board of Directors has made the difficult decision that this fifth year of operations for The Frosting Foundation will be our final year. Growing this Foundation from the spark of an idea to a national charity has been a cause so close to our hearts. With your support, as of March 2020, we have spread birthday cheer to 1264 children in every Children’s Hospital from coast to coast, as well as many general hospitals with ...paediatric units across Canada. This Foundation grew from a wish to do something to brighten the days of children in hospital, and to bring a little joy to families who are often going through a very difficult time. With the dedication and support of the volunteers who have packed Birthday Boxes, sold chocolate bunnies in our annual Bunnies for Birthdays campaign, donated funds and birthday party supplies, created beautiful cards and banners, and supported our early fundraising efforts through our Superhero Brunch, this spark has grown it into the success it is today. We cannot thank you enough for the support you have shown us over the years. To our hospital partnerships and the Child Life Specialists we work with, thank-you for connecting these boxes with children spending their birthday in your care. To the Child Life Department at Children’s Hospital in Winnipeg, thank-you for the input that helped make these Birthday Boxes so special. From being our early cheerleaders, to determining what would be the most beneficial items to have in these boxes, your support has been invaluable. Although this is our final year of operations, we will continue to send out Birthday Boxes to hospitals on request, as long as we have the stock to do so. As a result of One Big Day for Birthdays last fall, we anticipate that we have enough Birthday Boxes in storage to last the remainder of 2020. As we are in the process of winding down operations, we are no longer collecting birthday party supplies. We will not be hosting Bunnies for Birthdays this year, or collecting further online donations. Any funds remaining in our account at the end of 2020 will be donated to the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Winnipeg, as per our constitution. We will continue to maintain our registered charitable status throughout this year, and will be able to provide tax receipts for donations made thus far. We have loved our time working with all of you. We appreciate each and every one of you for the support and love you have shown to The Frosting Foundation. We are so very proud of all that we have accomplished together. One of our favourite things is sending off a shipment of birthday boxes, and imagining the smiles they’ll bring when they reach their destination. This shipment is off to bring cheer to kiddos at Janeway Children’s Health Centre, in Newfoundland! #birthdayboxes #spreadcheer
