Just wanted to take a little time to update our 'new store'. While our search continues for a location it has been slowed by the pandemic and the Government restrictions. Sticking our necks out not knowing whether we can be open or not is a big risk. With product availability being scarce and prices being outrageously high it has to be a consideration in any business plan. We are seeing a continued increase in our online business which helps. Our last store got nowhere with the landlord and COVID restrictions and paying rent to be closed really is counter productive. We had looked at doing something with someone we had helped out but they have gone in a different direction. That's it for now. Any thoughts just post a message. Stay safe :)

We see a lot of stores posting on various FB and Marketplace group pages (not their own) trying to entice business. We haven't really done that and don't know how we really feel about it. I guess to us it is self promotion, advertising or hijacking someone else's page.

We are slowly but surely moving items from other venues such as eBay to our website. It really comes down to being tired of paying fees, dealing with 'questionable' buyers, buyers with lowball offers and to be honest giving our items away to strangers. The recent Upper Deck issues with Series Two have become a gigantic headache. It's bad enough dealing with damaged product but the Series Two delays and the inconsistencies in information as to when RETAIL will FINALLY be available is appalling and so disrespectful of collectors. We want collectors to know that this is totally out of our control. While we have Retail and Tins coming in we are scared to death to promise anything with such uncertainty and lack of trust with Upper Deck.

I find it incredibly puzzling trying to understand how Upper Deck Hobby Policy lets a book store or places that sell diapers and such be a Diamond Dealer. The guidance we have from UD when applying is that you need to be primarily a card store. That you need to have showcases with singles for sale, that you need to sell and display card supplies. When less than 25% of your store is cards you aren't a card store. There are many glitches to this policy which seem to contradict their own policy. Why some places have to jump through hoops to be a Diamond Dealer and others seem to get approved without following the rules. SMH. Happy collecting. - Doug

It is funny hearing people slagging the Lafreniere Young Gun Rookie Card going for $300-400. I remember guys pre-selling McDavid for $350-$450 a piece. Look what happened there. McDavid did pretty good and with Lafreniere breaking Crosby's QMJHL record should we crap on him ? McDavid rode an OHL wave so why not Lafreniere ? I'm not justifying the greedy sellers charging exorbitant amounts for product they had purchased at the pre-order price. Hearing $175-$200 a box even at the reorder price is outrageous. Simple greed. No ifs and or buts about it. In case you missed it our UD1 Retail boxes will STILL be at the original offered price. No artificial increases. Happy collecting. - Doug

Just wanted to say that we are sorry for the predicament with Upper Deck Series 1 Hobby boxes. We didn't pre-order any in error and we thought our distributors would remember the quantities that we have preordered over the years. Sadly this wasn't the case and we got NONE which begs the question where is the customer service. For those hunting out there we are hearing some very disturbing news that stores are charging a premium on product that was preordered at the set price. Our selling price that we quoted before finding out we weren't getting any was $110-$115 depending on quantity. Guys charging $125 or more are simply greedy as the price on preorders didn't change. Color me pissed off at the whole damn thing. Happy collecting. - Doug

I'm a little torn on these case/box breaks. Sure from a collector standpoint it is a good way to buy your team and get what you want hopefully more so from cases than boxes. I guess the issue for me is doing the math. From a seller standpoint you make more on a case break than you do selling the boxes. Not a lot more but more none the less. Even factoring in shipping costs. You avoid competing with other shops on box prices. I don't know how I could tell a client that we can...'t break a case to give him a box because we are doing a case break. We've never turned a client down for a box even if it meant breaking our last case. There are lots of breakers out there so I don't know if you do yourself any favors that way. It is a tough decision especially with the new UD1 coming out. The Lafreniere Rangers are going for bucks $350-$400 I hear but what about the rest of the teams ? Toronto, Edmonton, Montreal and Pittsburgh will sell but what about teams like Carolina, Florida and Arizona ? This is a tough nut. I like when Angie does a mixed break for us because it has some excitement to it but 12 boxes of the same thing over and over again. Just some thoughts. Happy collecting, - Doug

Boy I'm telling you there are some pretty crappy card people out there. I'm so sick of seeing there overpriced crap show up on my FB that I'm leaving group pages and blocking posts. To condone this type of garbage is shameful and continues to put black marks on the hobby and drive collectors away.

A little rant. I thought the FB Marketplace was supposed to be a place to get deals. I see sports card and memorabilia postings that are so rude. A $10 card for $40. It makes the flea market guys look like Santa Claus. No wonder I get so many messages asking about these items. Almost every one is a rip off. Just another venue to take advantage of people.

If we get a case of series 1 hobby tomorrow is anyone interested?

We do not have any UD World Juniors or Premier on preorder. What this means is we will likely not get our hands on any. UD in its wisdom and greed has shortened its production runs hence you see products like OPC hobby selling out (never happened before) and other products being allocated and prices going through the roof. What is supposed to be a hobby has gotten worse year over year with card companies raping collectors with ridiculous prices and mediocre product. As with 15-16 when everything got jacked by McDavid the same is going on now with new stuff and leftover 19-20 product was limited. This is all on the card companies. LCS has nothing to do with it.

Not really a rant but...so you want to unload a 4 row box of 18-19 Upper Deck hockey base cards. I ask if the cards have been picked through and the seller says no. I ask how many McDavid, Crosby, Ovie, Carey Price, Marner and Matthews cards there are. The reply is NONE - but they haven't been picked through. I really don't understand why people feel the need to lie or misrepresent what they have or 'neglect to be honest'. SMH.

Anyone use the Beckett Online Price guide ? We just got a renewal notice and the 3 month price is going up around $29. WTF ! Business is slow and they want to jack the price up. I guess Upper Deck aren't the only ones with their heads up their asses.

Well 20-21 UD MVP came out last week and this week it is O-Pee-Chee. Strangely OPC Hobby is already sold out but I'll bet somehow it will pop back in stock at a higher price of course. Not fussy on Upper Deck cutting back on packs once again. Remember OPC was 36 packs, then 24 and now only 18. The product and finish are a hard pill to swallow at the price plus having a huge 600 card set coming from a box with less cards will be hard to finish. Increased prices seems to be the new slogan for card companies. Pay more and get less :p
