VERN ISBERG-Bluey Day 2021 Participant Vern’s brother, Arnie Isberg, passed away from cancer in 2011. He started the Arnie Isberg baseball team that ran every year, raising thousands of dollars towards medical equipment, until the pandemic made it impossible to meet. This year Vern decided to commemorate his brother by joining Bluey Day. The Fort St. John Hospital Foundation is joining the Peace Sun FM 98.5FM crew for the 19th Annual ‘Have a Heart’ Radiothon on June 17, 2021. Every year, this wonderful community shows us how much heart they have in helping purchase a vital piece of equipment that directly benefits our newborns, expectant mothers, and children at the Hospital. We will be broadcasting live, on location, at Fort St John Home Hardware, all day, inviting residents and businesses to help support this campaign. Alicia has been growing her for the last 6 years and is finally long enough to donate to Wigs for Kids! Alicia says that the Fort St. John Hospital has been a major part in helping her with her health care... since she moved here 3 years ago. She believes that the hospital is a very important part of our community that helps keep us all safe and healthy. KATARINA OLMSTEAD-Bluey Day 2021 Participant Meet "almost" 12 year old, Katarina Olmstead. Katarina has wanted to shave her head since she was 10 years old to raise money for cancer but her parents said she had to wait and make sure she had really thought it through. Katarina recalls that they did let her cut her hair and donate it for children's wigs though. Katarina is hoping to raise money to help our hospital get better equipment to be able to help people get diagnosed... earlier. She also wants to show children that have cancer that she truly cares about them and wants to support them. Congratulations!The Fort St John Hospital Foundation wanted to celebrate the first new years baby born at the Fort St. John Hospital Birthing Center with a new initiative. Mom Kristen McCaughley and dad Corbyn Hubley (pictured with their baby boy born 8:21 am on Jan 1, 2021, weighing 7lb 8 oz), were presented with a $100 gift voucher and gift basket sponsored by Shoppers Drug Mart. Shoppers also committed to sponsor the $125 cost for the first new year baby's name and date of... birth to be engraved on one of the Foundations *petals on the special commemorative Baby Bouquet Wall (*parental consent required). We are very excited that Shoppers is partnering with the Foundation with this initiative as throughout 2021 every birth at the Hospital Birthing Center a Shoppers $10 gift voucher is given that will help purchase a few necessary items when new baby comes home. It takes a lot more to take care of newborns as they have specific needs therefore funds raised through the purchase of petals that are displayed on the Baby Bouquet Wall or donations to the Eastern Star Children’s Fund purchase equipment for the Birthing Center that benefit babies and expecting mothers. Recent equipment purchases such as Pediatric Alaris Pumps, Drager Jaundice Meter and Panda Warmers are vital in the care of infants in the Birthing Centre. Up to date technology ensures that nurses and other caregivers have the most up-to-date information to monitor the baby.
