These last few summer days are perfect for getting the winter wood in the wood shed. Really appreciate the heat on those cold winter nights. Wood burning provides many benefits: exercise, outdoor activity, and heats the house to the temperature my wife likes....a real bonus!... When choosing a financial product, make sure the product provides not just more money, but benefits too! Let me know if you want to know how that's done, I can help . #finances #personalfinance #money #savingmoney #wealth #lifeinsurance

I feel very fortunate to live in such a great area of #NovaScotia ! Often success comes from recognizing a void and filling it. Make sure there are no voids in your financial future. Dexter's Butcher Shop did just that and is now a very successful business on Main Street in #Tatamagouche, NS ... Who doesn't enjoy an ice cream, at Tatamagouche Creamery, (named after The Creamery which used to operate in Tata); you can get many interesting and unique flavors! #supportLocal whenever you can !! #financialgoals #localBusiness #business

The Noble and Virtuous aspects of LIFE INSURANCE It is a cooperative and community approach. The #deathBenefit of a life insurance policy is only possible because of the contributions of many.... It is only possible because of the cooperative nature of humans; and shows how human life values can be expressed through economic life values. I can help you recognize and achieve your #economic life value, for the benefit of ALL that you care about. #lifeInsurance #security #family #benefits #finances #peaceofMind

What's your way to De-stress ? Carol left the office early the other day, to play a round of golf with a few friends at Wallace River Golf Course. A great way to de-stress on this beautiful 9 hole course, it's family owned and just a short drive from Brule.NS ... Remember to take time out when you feel stressed, be kind to yourself and relax. #supportlocal #familyownedbusiness #NovaScotia

Those who have been following my posts might be wondering how the lime tree grew this summer. Best growing summer ever, biggest limes and very prolific! On the other hand, the swallows never returned to their house. We really missed them this year.... As nature shows us, one cant always count on growth and returns. So when it comes to your #money its best to follow a proven process to help you optimize your present #financial position; and pay something forward for the years to come for you and those who mean the most to you. #lifeinsurance #personalfinances

September is often a time of NEW BEGINNINGS: Starting school, going to college or university, or learning to live as an empty nester. Flying a kite can be like chasing RATES OF RETURN in the financial markets. Outside forces out of your control influence both scenarios. When you are young & have money to lose, risk taking might be OK, depending on your present financial position.... BUT chances are, when heading into your final 1/3 of life, some guarantees and less volatility may be more fun than hoping that your money can stay up there! If you want to learn more on how I can help, feel free to inbox me :)

Frank on the Deck is back... coming to you from beautiful sunny Tatamagouche, NS . Today I'm reflecting on the passage of time and the importance of #lifeinsurance

Frank Tooton, Chartered Financial Consultant 26.03.2020

Case Study: #LifeInsurance ! Annual verses Monthly premium payments, how to save about 5-8% of your money! A typical life insurance quote for a female, age 27, $ 350,000 for a 10-year term Life Insurance, + $ 25,000 for a 10-year term Critical Illness coverage, + a disability waiver of premium: ... $ 24.12 per month or $ 267.95 annually. At first glance this does not seem like much, the difference being $ 21.49 a year but that is about 8%. And dont forget, that difference invested over 10 years at 5% also represents a lost opportunity cost of $ 283.81. As well, get a better #insurance policy, compared to a typical lenders, less reliable and more costly mortgage insurance. Why not have a longer-term contract that you own, control and can make changes to improve your financial well-being? #finances #money

There's a big difference between Goals and Habits ! Goals They point to an ideal outcome, but can be limiting!... Habits Are a result of persistence. They fill voids & can best be achieved when aligned with your true values, i.e. what inspires you to take sustained action. Did you take that run or walk today? Having trouble regularly practicing yoga? Our challenge is to do this every 2nd day. The BUDDY SYSTEM can work wonders ! Wouldn't having the right professional financial buddy help you achieve financial success? #personalfinances #finances #wealth #money #retirementplanning

Alphabet Soup???!!! MD, P. Eng, CPA, CFP, QC, CIM, etc. These are a sample of professional designations. These professional designations are indicative of an expert or accredited person in a specific area of work. As is often the case these, the industries they represent have people with a variety of competence & results delivered, given any individual situation.... When you look for guidance it is so important to ensure that person to whom you are looking for advice, is a person who keeps current & qualified with the specifics of the industry they are in, to help deliver the best options for you. SETH'S BLOG BELOW, spoke to me of the importance of making sure, when it comes to making critical decisions, it is important to know you are working with an expert, who has current & relevant qualifications. Versus a #DIY approach, taking advise from someone who is not qualified or just a Robo-advisor. Eg. I do not give tax or legal advice, there is another pro who can offer that input. It is most likely that those professionals do not represent a career focused on #insurance or holistic #financialplanning. What is unfortunate is how often people use a (DIY) approach to make important personal #money decisions. More often the case, without the right info & tools. How important are making successful personal money decisions to you? Frank R. Tooton, CFP, CLU, CH. F.C. (Certified Financial Planner, Chartered Life Underwriter, Chartered Financial Consultant) My specialty is helping people make critical, life centered, personal money decisions. This can be coordinated with other professionals when appropriate.

You can plan many things in life like a party or a garden and hope it works out as you expect. But planning your #financial life often takes a number of different paths. 1. No Planning - leads to financial difficulties and financial disarray... 2. Occasional Planning - putting things off & always being one or two steps behind, often leads to unnecessary erosion of your #money or not having it in the right place. Single needs planning - waiting until you are forced to make limited financial decisions. Financial Management: Process driven - This goes beyond planning & involves establishing & optimizing your present financial position. Once verified, this is the most accurate fact about your personal finances. From here you can make truly informed, holistic & strategic financial decisions. What path would you like to take? If you can devote about 1.5 hours a month to your personal finances (of that maybe 3-4 hours a year would include my time to help) let me know. :)

Employment ends and you are given options for the future of your #retirement funds. There are a variety of plans (DC, DB, Group RRSP, DPSP, etc.), where your funds may be with your employer sponsored plan. Make sure you know which is yours! A defined benefit plan (DB) is often considered the most reliable, especially if your employer was the government.... CASE STUDY : I had a client referred to me recently who had to make a choice, stay with the employer #pensionplan or transfer it to a plan they own and control. Given it was his companys DB plan, there was much to consider. Life is not 100% guaranteed nor are pension plans, regardless of the sponsor. For example, Ive have another client whose plan is government sponsored and they are not happy because the inflation protection benefit has been removed. What can the client do to help maximize, control and protect their retirement income? The solution lies in an independent approach, to diversify beyond just a selection of a diversified investment portfolio and most important: do not ignore a scientific approach. After all, that DB plan was based on actuarial science to help ensure financial stability for many pensioners. You are unique, so make sure your approach is not based more on hope, hype and ignorance, let me help you take control.

TBT #ThrowbackThursday ! Carol and I took a month in France back in 2015 ! What a trip of a lifetime, with Paris being one of our favorite spots. Reasons why we were able to take this trip:... 1. We paid ourselves 1st savings 2. We took advantage of circumstances our son was living there at the time 3. We utilized resources available to us A Money Multiplier approach using points and shared air miles. Our #money was working efficiently for us as we realized both cash to spend and benefits. Get what you want by getting more than just one use of your hard-earned dollars Is there something that you have always wanted to do or have ? You can get it, with the right financial system put in place for yourself. #finances #savemoney

Ive really enjoyed baking bread for the past couple of years. My wife laughs every time when I declare, "this is the best bread yet! There is a basic recipe, but always room for personal preferences & improvement. What is your best personal financial recipe/strategy in these uncertain times?... Here are some guidelines: Know your present financial position, thoroughly! Pay yourself 1st, the right way. Income Protection, perhaps the most important financial priority/ingredient for most people. We are all unique, no one rule satisfies everyone. #finances

Were all familiar with the phrase Cant see the forest for the trees. A view of the big picture can be more rewarding! When #lifeinsurance is purchased, the focus is often on the death benefit & make no mistake, thats the most powerful part of this fantastic financial product, & its just one of its many of values.... So you ask, Frank.... whats in it for the insured? Looking at it holistically, in conjunction with other financial assets, the right type of life insurance becomes a real turbo charger for other assets. CASE STUDY : I recently had a client realize the value from having bought the best life insurance policy 30 years ago. He & his wife stated that even though they have other assets, his policy was the best investment they ever made! They are now looking at #retirement with more peace of mind & less concern about taxes & market vulnerability. This is because when he bought the policy, the insured had potentially written himself a permission slip, giving them more freedom to spend more money while he is alive. The insurance will replace the money spent when he passes. Simply put, the purpose of insurance is to replace the loss of an asset, in this case most efficiently for both the insured and beneficiary. Money is more like Fruit than Math ! This photo is of a fruit market in the south of France. We had a fabulous visit back in 2015. How nice to experience other cultures and the way they market their food.... A quick quiz: Were standing in the market, I have 2 apples on a table and you add 2 more apples to that table; in 25 years how many apples do we expect to be on the table? How many people leave themselves short because they equate money decisions with simple math calculations & decisions?
