Taking a pause away from social media felt like a very meaningful and necessary step during the summer and fall months. It was an opportunity to reflect on the various roles and ways this medium can be both helpful and harmful. With the growth of the collective we wanted to enter back into this space and share with you why we are here and how we would like to engage in this realm. We are returning to social media because we believe in access to good quality free information... and hope to use this space for knowledge translation to the community who follows us here. We are committed to our role in this space in the following ways: We will raise awareness to common sense, general health practices and concerns related to pelvic health care and whole person lifestyle support. This is not medical advice that replaces individual consultation with a provider We will try to combat misinformation and improve transfer of health knowledge to the public: We will site any evidence to the research or original source of information We will identify when we are giving our personal opinions Include diverse imagery and inclusive language for race, gender and individual expression of identity. We will accept feedback, not shy away from making changes and correcting ourselves and errors we may make along the way. We will share in the experience of being human, vulnerable and with our own flaws as we learn and grow together. We look forward to expanding and connecting with you. Please remember that we are clinicians and do not have a hired social media manager. We will try to monitor and engage outside of our clinic time while maintaining our boundaries and safety in this space. We ask for connections for appointments to be made through our website and booking site and will not be providing individualized recommendations. We would love to hear about the ways this information is impacting you and share this information with those you feel it would be meaningful. Sleep . Eat . Move . A family in need of the love of community from those they know and even more those they don’t as they advocate for the treatment needed to save a life. Nobody should go without access to medical services that they need, including Lucy.

Persistent Genital Arousal Disorder (PGAD) can be highly distressing, yet it is a poorly understood genitopelvic condition. PGAD is characterized by persistent, unwanted feelings of physiological genital arousal sensations in the absence of desire. Individuals often face stigma when seeking care, and have trouble finding appropriate resources and treatment. . If you have experienced or know someone who has experienced PGAD, there is support for you AND your input in the resea...rch is incredibly valuable! . Researchers at Queen’s University are seeking participants who experience unwanted, persistent genital arousal sensations (i.e., tingling, throbbing, restlessness) in the absence of sexual desire. Participation involves completing a series of online surveys to help better understand how these symptoms change over time. Participants must 18 or older, fluent in English, and the survey is open to individuals of all genders. We’ve been feeling a little weary in our household these days. Between juggling our new of COVID life with small children and observing and interacting with the world around us right now, it is easy to lose sight of ourselves in it all. Taking time to remember our fundamental building blocks for health and well-being can help us to have restored energy to keep engaging in the world in ways that are meaningful for each of us. Connection is one of the fundamental four I’ve be...en leaning back into recently to fill my cup back up. I’ve been particularly trying to spend time in connection with those I love and connection to the beauty of earth. We’ve spent some time in our garden and are getting to enjoy the first early harvests from the work we put in so many months ago. It’s a beautiful thing to remember the hope in which we took over space previously neglected and tried to make sure what we planted would be well matched to the environment for it to flourish. We’ve had to move things around a bit as we understood the needs of our produce, the richness of the earth and where the sun shone to maximize the potential. I could go on forever with gardening metaphors! Most importantly, it’s been a fun adventure in the simplicity of moving our bodies, moving the earth and seeing what we can create. How are you connecting to feel restored? #fundamentalfour #connect #healthyfamilies #dirtyhands #garden #metaphoresforlife #kidsgarden #nourish #growyourownfood #raddish #zucchini #kale #lettuce #biopsychosocial #pelvicfloorphysio

I’m joining up with @LadyBusiness this Friday, June 19th at 10:30am for a free 1h information session. . These past couple months have been stressful for our bodies and the constant threat of change and uncertainty can manifest into physical body symptoms, such as phantom COVID symptoms, body aches and pain, headaches, digestive problems, lethargy, and sleep disturbances. . .... In this session, I am going to chat more about the biopsychosocial approach to understanding our bodies. If you have ever seen me in clinic, you know this approach looks objectively at how our nervous systems can give physical messages to pay attention and how to interpret what those messages may be. . We will discuss how optimizing our #fundamentalfour systems of sleep, nutrition, movement, and connection can support our whole health. After, we will move through a grounding morning movement sequence that can be a beautiful way to get those systems flowing. . Check out my stories to learn a bit more and get your free ticket today, link to the Eventbrite is in the bio and @LadyBusiness. See more

I drafted a post the other week when I first heard Adrian Dix read this pledge. George Floyd had just been murdered and we had another video reminder, once again, that BIPOC continue to be disproportionally impacted by the reality of STILL having to fight against systemic and structural violence every damn day. . My style is to write from a personal narrative. It allows me to offer considerations from my own lens and hopefully let the reader choose their own adventure. My in...tention is to allow people to make choices about their health and well-being in ways that fit their uniqueness. . This week, it still doesn’t feel right to post from that lens. Instead, I want to continue to keep learning and having difficult conversations to make sure we don’t slip back into our lives with the ease at which amnesia sets in. I want to continue to understand the roots of my own privilege as a cis-white woman, and reflect on how I as an individual, a health care provider, and a business owner can be involved in trying to make meaningful changes towards justice. . As a complimentary health care professional, I recommit myself and my business to: 1. Openly receive feedback about delivery of care and opportunities to improve 2. Treat the individual in front of me in their entirety, based on the needs they identify as meaningful to them. 3. Offer free group information sessions online and in my community. 4. Offer sliding scale pricing supportive healthcare should not by a luxury service only available to those with extended health benefits or private funds. 5. Push for equity in the health care including lobby CPTBC, PABC and MSP to fund pelvic and perinatal health services that are disproportionally inaccessible to BIPOC. 6. Continue to seek education for myself about the biomedical AND social facets of health and health care, and learn more about the ways that trauma, culture, race, systemic and structural violence intersect with healthcare resources . This is an ongoing, lifelong process of learning that requires listening, reflecting, and challenging ourselves to do better. . Today and every day, I will strive to uphold the importance of being #differenttogether See more

Morning run with an awesome podcast featuring @austinchanning and her book I’m Still Here: Black Dignity in a World Made of Whiteness. There were so many amazing things to consider about the depth of racism within us and conversation on the ideas of white privilege. Nice people can still be racist and we need to do better at getting uncomfortable to open the door to get it right! Check out the Unlocking Us Podcast for the episode released June 10! #amplifymelanatedvoices #learningwhilemoving #engagedintheconversation #wecandobetter

Today we put rain or shine workouts to the test. My now translucent water coloured workout notes on the back of my kid’s colouring are evidence that rain won. Lovely refreshing drizzle while we moved and enjoyed the community of new faces who are all just making the best of where we are! Missed today’s class? Try this one on your own this week: add the exercises on one at a time until you have all 5 in a row. Then, take them off one at a time until you finish with the last ...one. Make sure to run a lap between every grouping of exercises to keep your heart rate up between bouts of strength. Eg. Run + bridge, Run + bridge + crunch, Run + bridge + crunch + etc. Don’t forget to sign up if you want to come out next week! #pelvicfloorphysio #pelvicfloor #groupworkout #togetherapart #pyramid #postpartumfitness #prenatalfitness #biopsychosocial #community #rainorshine #rainyday #watercolour

Sometimes it is astonishing how you can surprise yourself. When COVID-19 hit I was two long runs away from starting my nice long taper before the @bmovanmarathon . It has been 7 years since I last ran a full marathon. I was hit by a car on my bicycle the fall after my last marathon and it was a hard road to long running from there. I comfortably settled into running the BMO half every year while I was pregnant and recovering, pregnant and recovering. Two and a half years aft...er the birth of my youngest, this was the year I thought I might be ready to give it another go. The time commitment I had for long weekend morning runs was hard to find in our now family schedule. I found weekday time, when the kids were at daycare, between meetings and admin on my work from home day. It felt great to be working towards a challenging goal from a part of me that took a back seat to having children. After March 13, that plan slammed to a halt as fast as life they way it was did. Along with everything, the structure of my running had to change with our changing work-life-full-time parenting dynamic. I started running more often but less distance to help clear my mind and ground me for navigating the barrage of change and new information filtering in daily and subsequent fatigue of it all. Long runs seemed out of the question. Then, a few weeks ago, an old friend posted that she was going to do the virtual race. I was skeptical of my abilities but the plan got hatched to find a way to meet to run #togetherapart to help motivate each other to #getitdone. A few more things fell into place, I tapered off my runs a little this week and crossed my fingers and toes when I got up today that all I do to move and support myself in the world would carry me out and back home again. What sweet sweet amazement to do something you had given up on. Wishing you all surprise and amazement in yourself and all the things you can do with a little support! @brooksrunningCA #runhappyrunvan #bmovm #marathon #pelvicfloorphysio #pelvicfloor #postpartumgoals #postpartumrunning #oldself #support #motivation #success #amazed #yvr #burnaby #runningsights #runningshirts #thedogonlyran12k
