Congratulations to Patricia, who won first place in our Poetry competition!
The annual fair of San Jorge la Laguna happened last week. It was a very colorful event, lots of costumes, lots of dancing and big bands.
Feliz Dia de Trabajadoras! Thank you to all the Fundamaya team who has worked so hard during the Pandemic delivering food and other essentials to so many families in need. Gracias a todo el equipo de Fundamaya que ha trabajado tan duro durante la pandemia entregando alimentos y otros artículos esenciales a las familias necesitadas.

In the Maya Quiché township of Chichicastenango in Guatemala, religious leaders, and members of the cofradia wear their traje tipico/regional costume on Good Fr...iday. A short ceremonial jacket known as a ‘saco’ is made from a twill-woven black wool fabric. The ‘saco’ is embroidered with colorful silk flowers and has twisted silk fringe dangling at the lower edge of the back of the jacket. The trousers, which are knee length and slit on the sides, are also made from black-woven wool, and referred to as ‘panteln rajado.’ Depending on what region in Guatemala these trousers are worn, the intricately embroidered side flaps may denote age and status. Colorful shawls known as ‘tzuts’ are distinctive in Chichicastenango with their long tassels and predominantly red color and patterns. See more
The sweetest smiles! These two are moving from sleeping on bags on a cement floor to a bed thanks to a generous donor. The sister's have a brother, Angel, who is 4 and who needs a sponsor for preschool. The preschool provides a nutritious meal 5 days a week as well as a great head start in preparing for public school. The cost is $563CAD for the year or $47CAD per month. The bed brought smiles and comfort; sponsorship will lead to a better future. Please contact [email protected] if you are interested in helping this little one. Please like and share with family and friends.
Keep the smiles coming! Fill empty tummies. Please give to the Emergency Food Fund on Giving Tuesday, December 1st. www.fundamayacanada.ca/donate Thank you for caring.
Glad to see the animals are also being rescued during the flooding in Guatemala. https://www.guatemala.com//depresion-tropical-eta-guatemal
Tamale Baskets for Christmas: A tradition in Guatemala is eating tamales at midnight at Christmas and drinking either hot chocolate or a delicious non-alcoholic fruit punch called "Caliente" because it is served hot. On learning that many families could not afford the ingredients, FundaMaya Guatemala began the tradition of making up Tamale baskets for donation. This special meal is even more precious in this pandemic year when families would have faced starvation without y...our generosity in supporting the Emergency Food Fund. Please consider a Tamale basket that provides that special meal and food for a week. The cost is $60 CAD to bring a traditional treat and big smiles to many.
Today Fundamaya Guatemala was able to distribute food to sponsored students and other people in need. Basic staples are now being augmented with chicken and vegetables where possible. Your donations provide such a gift from the heavens for families who are struggling and have very little to feed their children. Thank you! #GivingTuesdayCA #fundamayacanada
Please consider a donation to fill empty tummies. Families remain reliant on donations to the Emergency Food Fund. Little work is available. Families relied on daily work for daily food. Thank you.
