Announcing a Winter Dance Series in Oliver for 10 consecutive weeks Saturday, January 9th to Saturday, March 12th This program is offered to various age levels ranging from 2 - 12 years of age.... Adult participation is encouraged at the preschool age (2-4 years). You'll have so much fun you'll be asking for an adult class soon enough ;) For those young ones with specific dance modality experience such as Jazz, Ballet, etc., there is a great benefit from this series, I see it when I "salt and pepper" these concepts into my teaching of specified dance styles. One of the greatest benefits I have seen is increased inner connectivity balanced with outer expressiveness. At this time I am aiming to run 4-5 different age groupings; however class groupings will be subject to enrollment due to studio size and community interest. The series comprises of a 1 hour class to be set sometime between 9:00am and 3:00PM on Saturdays. Scheduling considerations are welcomed at this time as reservations are made to ensure the best and right flow for interested families. :) A final weekly schedule will aim to be released by the end of December. To reserve a place in the Winter series call me or message me! The cost $100 for the series. Participants need comfortable flexible clothing and bare feet.

FUNdamental classes - balance creative expression with skill development. The framework within the class supports and encourages one's dance vocabulary giving way to increased creativity and communication skills. New concepts are introduced each week and naturally layer upon the prior week's dance concept. In each lesson the concept that is introduced is explored through intriguing dance and musical mediums, addressing "multiple intelligences" of learning and then used to c...reate an improvisational story or set choreography. Below is a quote from one of my mentors, Anne Green Gilbert, founder of the Creative Dance Centre in Seattle, WA. (Founded in 1981); www.creativedance.org "Young children respond to music with movement but without knowledge one’s movement responses cannot develop and grow. The knowledge to dance freely with skill and creativity offers new worlds of self expression. Creative dance can be a powerful tool towards peace because people learn to solve problems, express feelings, cooperate, accept and value individual differences, gain an awareness of their own and other’s cultures and engage in an activity that increases self-esteem." During my 18 years of teaching dance, with an extensive background in Classical Ballet as well as Jazz, Tap and Modern and hold a teaching certification with England's Royal Academy and regularly enter students into exams with great success, I've come to believe the following FUNdementals; -An essential way we learn is through the body, -Emotional involvement is required to learn, -Engaging a student in an exploratory learning process is an invaluable skill for a teacher to thus motivate one's emotions, and therefore a consequent desire to learn. -Everyone has a right to feel comfortable in their body and be able to express feelings through movement in a non-competitive environment. -Children come from a place of knowing spirit and come from a place of joy. My dream is to foster each individual desire to keep these qualities open and strong in their dance and their lives. Emotions and learning occur in the brain. Learning means acquiring knowledge or skills. Learning requires thinking. Our thoughts influence how we feel. How we feel influences how we think. (Candy Lawson). My method of teaching dance will provide the structure, the progression, and the understanding that will help your child gain control of their bodies while giving them the skills to express themselves creatively. Beautiful location in Oliver, BC. For our first location we get to use a space inside the Oliver House Bed and Breakfast, which has been converted into a studio! This is a lovely, old English style home with loads of character. Steve and Claudette, who have operated the Bed and Breakfast for 10 years are ready for something different. Steve, being closely involved with the Okanagan Art Gallery and Claudette, who is passionate about health and wellness are interested in com...bining these loves and are excited to open their home to art and wellness related classes. The warm and cozy studio is equipped with real hardwood floors that have good spring which is perfect for dance, natural lighting, multiple bathrooms and a comfortable waiting area for families with glass doors and windows into the studio perfect for viewing. Yahoo! I'm getting really excited too :) See more
