The Halifax Active Living Alliance in partnership with Dalhousie University presents the FREE event "Getting Active During COVID-19". The Event will feature Dr.... Sarah Moore, an Assistant Professor in the School of Health and Human Performance and a Healthy Populations Institute Scholar at Dalhousie University. A lot has changed in the way children and their families engage in physical activity, play, sport, and recreation as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and related lockdown and restrictions. This interactive virtual session will: - Describe the immediate and long-term impacts of COVID-19 pandemic on child and family movement, play, sport, and recreation; - Illustrate what movement, play, sport, and recreation may look like as we recover from the pandemic; - Provide evidence-based recommendations and strategies for return to movement, play, sport, and recreation. - Describe the long-term implications of reduced movement, play, sport, and recreation, and how to mitigate these negative effects; and - Discuss the important role of community supports during the COVID-19 pandemic and recovery period.
