Update: a couple of weeks ago we tested growing lion's mane on a mixture of hardwood pellet & walnut sawdust against straight hardwood pellets. Although we did only test this on 2 bags of each formula the results were consistent, the mixture of walnut and hardwood pellets did fruit nicely but the first flushes were on average 130 grams smaller. I think we will look for another use for our walnut sawdust ;) #lionsmane, #mushrooms,

We usually make our sawdust blocks using a mixture of wood shavings from a carpenter friend and HW pellets but unfortunately due to slow times over COVID we no longer have a regular source of wood shavings and are now down to the walnut that we have been told is too dense to grow on. However just before Christmas we decided we might as well try out the walnut and to our delight these little beauties have started to grow their first 'teeth' in the last couple of days!
