Off The Shoulder Dress Medium:Logwood purple, eco printed Logwood is a wild purple that bleeds like a manila sunset after a Volcano eruption. Its’ deep purple is rich in The name of the genus comes from the Greek and refers to the blood-red colour of the heart-wood. Haematoxylon I was in Manila in 1992 and I saw the force of that sunset. Colour can transcend us to wherever we want to go or maybe a place we have already been. Logwood bark and chips are soaked for many days ...and then boiled to create this godly purple. The fabric has to rinsed and rinsed and rinsed in water to set the colour. Water is the most important ingredient in natural dyeing. Water is our Goldmine and our Godly right and must never be commodified. Water was used to steam: marigolds, sumac leaves, catalpa leaves and black walnut leaves onto the dress. Our relationship to water is our Goldmine to our community. https://buff.ly/2Ou7pKR See more

Our clothes and our hair can carry the virus home! Really! Well it is not invited to my private party. Thankfully I have always been someone who loves hats and layers. I only wear organic clothes made from fabrics that are anti-fungal and anti-bacterial. I am not saying that the virus won’t cling to those fabrics but I do believe that they are a cleaner alternative. And wash your clothes when you get home and have cold shower. I have another response put on YOUR BIRTHDAY S...UIT. I DARE YOU TO GO TO A GROCERY STORE IN YOUR BIRTHDAY SUIT I am sure you won’t be charged because let’s face it we are all at risk even the police. It should be our legal right to be nude. Being quarantined in the nude sounds sexy. The birthday suit the one you were born in may be your only protection in the pandemic. We are so far removed from our natural habitat oh by the way for some of you gamers it’s called the forest take a walk and have a Corona while you are at it. Feeling natural is what it is all about. I indigo dyed this mini wrap top and the hemp yoga pants are plant dyed and eco printed with sumac leaves and other local foliage. I love this picture taken last summer on the beach in Cobourg with all my beautiful models. Yantras have been used as tools for awakening consciousness for thousands of years. A yantra is an external representation of an inner process of spiritual unfolding. It is the hidden music of the universe made visible. Comprised of intersecting geometrical forms and interference patterns, these images have been designed using sacred geometry; the embedded fundamental language of nature. These configurations of matter and energy can be found in the smallest particles as well as in the structure of galaxies and solar systems. The yantra is the divine intelligence that directs the unfolding of the inner and outer worlds; that which is born at the still point in deep meditation. You are that!

"Suzanne you are pretty and that is all". said Frau Eschenlohr, my German teacher and a nurse who served in World War 2. She taught German to my brother and I, every Saturday morning. While most of the girls my age were hanging out at the mall, I went to German school. Frau Eschenlohr was stern and had no tolerance for a child like me. In my defence, unbeknownst to her, I was pumped with medication for my chronic asthma. I could barely concentrate. Her words startled me and t...ook the breath right out of my lungs. Asthma is complex and words can create stress in the body and in my case can bring on an asthma attack. One Thousand Years Of Solitude written by Gabriel Garcia Marquez describes my condition very well. When the asthma comes on, a need for love and tenderness is crucial. Words matter. How we speak to each other matters. I suppose my interest in health stems from ill health. I want to thank my German teacher because I decided to become more than just pretty. My truth leads me towards Hemp and its' ability to clean our air. Hemp converts CO2 better than trees. Hemp for Victory a mini documentary filmed in 1942 describes the US governments' need for hemp rope, sails and canvas etc. The agriculture of hemp increased by 1000% in1943 because it served the war effort. When something serves a government the laws can change quickly and when something conflicts with a corporation and capitalism then the laws quickly change too. After the war it was reverted back to its defacto illegal status. It is my duty as a fashion designer to include hemp in my collection. This glorious plant should be grown everywhere without a fence (FYI the license requires a fence). This weed should be on public display as a saviour plant because not only does it clean the air it also cleans the soil. See more

I wish I had a Guru someone to tell me what to do; someone to worship! Unfortunately for me I read Jiddu Krishnamurti when I was very young "You yourself are the teacher and the pupil; you are the Master; you are the guru; you are the leader; you are everything. And to understand is to transform what is." It was the same for me in yoga when I chose to move away from method base practice to the wonderful and mysterious work of Vanda Scaravelli. Essentially it ended my career... as a potential yoga teacher. The clothing that I design and make represent that movement away from what is popular to something deep and profound. Not to diminish those who choose to follow a religion or institution. The path I have chosen is lonely but there is beauty in that. One of my favourite quotes "I am just a traveling monk wondering beneath an umbrella filled with holes" depicts a journey with lots of twists and turns and believe me I have been down many roads. It has never been an easy road but it is my road and I am blessed with all the wonderful people I have encountered especially the little beauty in the picture @foragersfarms Erin. Erin is one of those amazing beauties that touch my heart and represent everything I believe in. Natural and present. To be present is the greatest gift that life has to offer. The dress she is wearing took forever to make as all plant dyeing does. Dyed first in goldenrod then rapped in marbles and dipped in indigo. How playful is that! https://funkybuddhacollection.com//copy-of-sunset-hemp-dre See more

I remember when I was a child, my sister and I wore matching dresses. We would often wear the same outfit in different colours. I had the pink and she had the green. My mother loved a sale so I am sure she must of got a two for one deal. We used to go to place near Kensington Market called Willy's. It was on the basement floor. Boxes of clothes covered the entire store. We had to dig deep and pull out mountains of clothes to find the golden pieces. My mom would fill u...p an entire garbage bag. I hated going there. The smell of the chain smoking cashier who was Willy's wife. The mould from the basement and lack of air. We would spend hours there! It is a memory that I cannot easily forget. I chose these two pictures of the indigo dyed clothing I made last summer because my 13 year old daughter next to Alecia Bart reminds me of the matching outfits I shared with my sister. There is nothing sweeter than a mother and daughter in matching colours or two sisters in similar outfits. I also love when couples coordinate! I also love the fact that the clothes do not smell like tobacco. I am passionate about organics because of my memories of smoke and clothes. They don't go together but they sure did at Willys' lol https://funkybuddhacollection.com//p/yoga-crop-pant-indigo See more

Shibori is an ancient form of tie dyeing and stitching. It was first discovered in Japan around 238 C.E. but could possibly have come from China. The patterns are drawn onto the garment then hand stitched. Using strong upholstery thread to stitch then you pull the thread tight. It is hard on the hands. There are tools to make the task easier. Once all the threads are pulled super tight to create a resist you are ready to dye. This dress was dipped and rinsed four times to create a deeper blue and more contrast against the hand harvested Goldenrod.

Today is one of my favourite days of the week @ptbrfm The Saturday market is my time to spend with my community and friends. I get dozens of hugs and I get to talk to my local farmers. I get to eat amazing food! Essentially I am in my element. I know sometimes I talk too much and people are busy and I should not take it personally but somehow I do. Everybody has five seconds to say hello. I know this may sound harsh and it is not my job to teach manners but for gods' sak...es "sorry I am too busy" really gets my goat! Too busy for what? To say hello. To acknowledge someone with a smile. Are you off to the cottage? You got to run home to your Netflix. It's Saturday people! We are all busy but not so busy as to be cordial. I don't belong to the world of being too busy. My father was a paraplegic and it took forever to get anywhere with him. My mother was always in a rush and hurrying us. My father was always falling behind so whenever I hear people that are in a hurry I wonder if they are really telling the truth. Where are they going? And why are we so connected to an imaginary clock. My father always had time for people. He taught me that your community is everything. That if you change your community you can change your world. We know how fast our world is moving and we know it is not looking good. My father taught me to listen and be polite and cordial. Today I had a couple of older women who were looking at my clothes and I asked "Oh can I help you?" And they said "We were just looking at how fashion has changed" And I said oh "Is there something you like?" and they said "It's Weird" and walked away. The other woman said "weird in a good way" as if to excuse her friend. I have to admit I was in shock and it made me cry because my father taught me if you have nothing positive to say then don't say anything at all. I know I am weird, my father was too. I am not at the farmers market to sell to just sell to you. I am there to smile and make your day a little better. I am my fathers daughter and proud of it. Make time my people. We have so much we can learn from each other. Try being weird sometime. It is so much fun!! See more

I got interested in eco-printing using plant dyes because I wanted to create patterns and prints. I have always been amazed at the colourful patterns on plastic bottle pants that are all the rage. My friend is a plastic bottle expert and I asked her why are these called eco. Recycling and re-using plastics with PET plastics that do not end up in landfills are considered eco. Eco does not mean organic it means sustainable. Recycling plastic bottles to make clothes is a small... answer to a very large problem. Recycling plastics emits CO2 into the atmosphere and releases micro plastics every time you wash. These micro plastics end up in our oceans and are ingested ending up in our food chain. Micro plastics are found everywhere. I choose hemp whenever possible blended with organic cotton (unfortunately it uses a lot of water); I also work with Modal fabric made from beechwood. I never follow trends and try and make clothing that will never go out of fashion. I have had many customers say that my clothing lasts a really long time and that makes me hopeful. I also know that when we choose organics the clothing at the very least biodegrades. Eco printing and natural dyeing take a lot of time and use a lot of water. I am conscious of this and always work in batches. I also want you to know that when you plant dye you increase the life of the fabric and you are adding UV protection, anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties to the fabric. My mother who grew up during the war before plastics said there was no garbage everything was re-used or composted. Clothing was boiled, re-dyed and brought back to life. The beauty of plant dyed clothing is it can be boiled, re-dyed and brought back to life. Erin Bodashefsky "@forargersfarms is a farmer, a yogini and mother oh ya and a supporter!! Yoga is a daily practice and a commitment with the self. Choosing organic clothing is really important because the skin also needs to breathe. In places like India where it is extremely hot many yogis wear very little but here in freezing cold Canada a nice thin layer of breathable fabric is detrimental to human health. As the skin breathes it also excretes toxins. Fabrics like hemp, bamboo, modal have anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties that protect the skin from re...absorbing these toxins. I am a teacher but I am also a student. I am a master but I am also a beginner. I am mindful not to preach but I have observed that yoga is full of plastic fabrics. As a caring and loving human being I have created an alternative. I am looking for your support in my crusade to educate my people in making better choices for our environment and for ourselves. In loving kindness I offer you my hemp yoga pants that will not drag on the floor and possibly trip you up. These kick crops are made for a lifetime practice free of injury and full of love. I love you all and pray that you are joyful everyday and that you too find the beauty and time in your practice to surrender to yourself because you deserve it! https://buff.ly/2R381Gp See more

Clothing needs to make sense. My legging skirts have deep pockets and snug fit to keep you warm and secure. The little bra top is exceptionally comfortable and an amazing alternative.

Our fashion choices matter. Choosing organic, eco and locally made clothing is crucial. I love plant dyeing because it is always one of a kind. Every piece is dyed by hand. I always choose organic eco fabrics because we are what we wear. https://funkybuddhacollection.com//naturally-plant-dyed-li

Farmers are the bones of our country. I began my work in plant dyeing as a way to illustrate the beauty of nature and our need to preserve beauty. Seeds are being threatened and we can do something https://weseedchange.org/protect-farmers-rights-to-save-se/ Christina Abbott is wearing a dress I made in the summer. The marigolds symbolize the bees that are disappearing because science is not nature and nature is not science. Let us grow what nature intended and let our farmers save their seeds. Hemp is a beautiful fabric that gets better with time. It is like a second skin and is UV protective, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal. Amazing nightie or sun dress. Perfect light layer for the tropics.
