Truly....this sweetheart is just that, a total sweetie. She was found in a free roaming community and when being vet checked, numerous old and embedded porcup...ine quills were felt dangerously deep in her chest. She underwent a few hours of surgery to remove some of the more aggressively moving quills from going into her lung area. We are still pulling a few here and there from her nose and mouth area which is normal for these types of altercations. It's during our hands on time with Truly that we also quickly realized that she's mostly deaf. She will hear you if you yell in her general direction but normal house volume conversations aren't really heard. Truly is a smart little cookie and the biggest thing with her was gaining her trust and then using that trust to help guide her with training and in socializing with other dogs. We do not know her past but she is insecure and defensive around other dogs so Fry was tagged in and he did wonders for her skills and really worked at being dorky and playful to help her her gaurd down and realize that dog interactions, when the right partner is wisely chosen, can be enjoyable and fun! Truly tested 'not too shabby' with our resident cat Nigel and seemed more interested in his kibble bowl that in him! She may be able to live with a dog savvy cat. REUNITED AND IT FEELS SO GOOD! How about some heartwarming news! A dog named Ashley finally reunited with her owners in Daytona Beach after escaping from her home in Georgia!

There is a Male small boxer type dog running towards 19th Street NE right now. Tried to grab it but ran off. Very friendly & is brown tiger striped. Will try to catch it on my way home if I see it again.

Dutch is everyone's favorite and foster mom Jen has these words to say about this most handsome handsome: 'Dutchy baby is my absolute fave. He is a cuddle bug a...nd lover extraordinaire. He does not counter surf, or chew on anything, he also doesn’t get into anything he shouldn’t. He does not love his crate, but is eager to please and only whines a bit. He hates when one of his people are gone and walks around the house with the smallest little whines. Dutch is quite the couch addict, but this crap weather doesn’t phase him much, so out we go in the dark and the cold. We have been spending our indoor time using brain power to keep entertained and he has picked up quickly on leave it and waiting nicely for his treat... lay down took some time but is coming along nicely. No matter how much Dex enthusiastically shows Dutch how easy it is to shake a paw, Dutch doesn’t understand the point, and frankly, I get it...it’s a useless trick .' Dutch did 'not too shabby' with the cat test. He didn't focus on Nigel at all, acknowledged the kitty with a couple sniffs then went away to sniff other things. We think Dutch would be good with a mellow dog savvy cat. Dutch is a young boy who likes his friends to be slower, lazy, couch cuddles. He isn't really into the wrestle scene. Let's talk about Fry-guy! This little guy has a big personality! He is king of awkward couch positions, hoards the floor heater vents from his foster brothers,... and works part time for PPBR as a helper dog for our playgroup sessions. Fry's foster parents have these words: 'Hi, my name is Fry... at least that's what people keep saying to me. I'm selective about whether I'll come or not when they call me, irregardless of what name they use! They say it's because of my typical selective teenage hearing lol. So far my time at Prairie Pits has been a ton of fun with lots of people to cuddle with and lots of dogs to play with. I really love the girls and like to play chase with the boys but I can get jealous of the boys if they steal attention from me. My foster home has also been fantastic as they have multiple couches to cuddle and watch netflix on. Other than that, I'm just a typical dog who likes food, snacks and love. Even though my life is fantastic, I would love my very own family. If you think we would make good friends, please let one of the nice volunteers know by sending in an email.' Fry is a young adult dog with a fun cuddly stubborn streak, like all the food dogs! We would like to see him in a quiet adult home where there aren't a lot of new people coming and going. He loves his people and gets insecure when their attention goes to someone else. Finally gained the trust of this cat. Not going to grab at him/her to find out gender. Just wondering if anyone is missing it? 6, I believe, have been dropped o...ff out here in the last month or so. So sad. And I can't afford to feed 10 cats anymore. Some are very take and were definitely someone's pets, so guessing grabbed and ditched out here. Losers... See more

Good Morning, At this time of uncertainty, I want to make sure that you, your family, myself and my family stay safe. As for protocols I have enforced here is ...an outlook at our program. We will be continuing our services! Training of dogs is an important element of their social development. This helps prevent issues that can rise from not socializing, separation anxiety, house training, and much more. DK9C Mobile Services: As for this time all group sessions are postponed until further notice. Mobile services will be conducted outside the customer household in a safe space with the pet secured (in vehicle, garage, fenced yard, enclosed porch, etc.). Refraining from entering the home. Ensure that the service can be provided while maintaining physical distancing between individuals. Any food or treats used must be prepackaged in small zip-lock bags. Please use a cup or scoop to put food in so it can minimizes contact. This allows me to clean the bag and be confident to continue training. Health screening questionnaire to be filled out via over phone before session. There will be no physical contact between the trainer and client or dog and social distance should be maintained at all times unless there is a safety issue that is needing to be addressed. This will only happen with owners permission. Owners of dogs from infected or self-isolating households pose a significantly higher risk to the trainer and will not be accepted for in-person training.
