University of Guelph Future Vets Club 13.03.2021

Hey FVC! On April 28th, at 6:00 PM EST, we will be hosting an information session on CASPer - at OVC, the interview stage of the DVM admissions process for this year will instead include CASPer, a situational judgement test, administered by Altus Assessments. This evaluation tool is used by many other professional schools in Canada and internationally. This presentation will discuss the goal of CASPer, what CASPer looks for, how it is scored, and how to prepare for it! Look out for our meeting link closer to! It is a chance for you to ask questions, in a speed-dating fashion, pertaining to a wide variety of issues that veterinarians face in their daily lives, giving you insight to a particular path that you may choose to pursue in the future. This year, we are... featuring an extremely diverse and highly anticipated group of specialties! These individuals are eager to provide invaluable expertise and perspective from their extraordinary fields of study, so be sure to prepare your questions ahead of time. This event will be held over two dates via Microsoft Teams: Sunday, January 17th and Sunday, January 24th, both from 11:00am - 12:30pm. Each date will feature a different group of specialties. University of Guelph Future Vets Club 14.12.2020

Hey FVC! The 3D Veterinary Medicine and Innovation Club (3D-VETIC) from the Ontario Veterinary College is very excited to announce their first club event of the year! Next Tuesday, January 19th at 12:30 pm, they will be hosting Dr. Alex Zur Linden, Dr. John Phillips, and 3D printing company M3Dimensions founder Sean Bellefeuille. They will be speaking about their experiences and approaches to using 3D printing in the veterinary field. This event will be a speaker panel style ...with time for Q&A. Come for a chance to win a $15 UberEats gift card! No questions are required to be entered into the draw for the gift card. Speaker bios: Dr. Alex Zur Linden is a veterinary radiologist at the OVC and one of the founding members of RaPPID: Rapid Prototyping for Patient Specific Implants in Dogs. He has interests in computed tomography (small and large animal) and interventional procedures (vascular procedures, thermal ablation of tumors, stent placement). Dr. John Phillips is a Senior Design Engineer and one of the forerunners of the Digital Haptic Lab at the University of Guelph. He is an expert with 3D printers, a water jet cutter that can slice through steel and a digital haptic device that allows users to develop unique 3D designs on a computer. Sean Bellefeuille is a first year veterinary student at the Cornell University School of Veterinary Medicine and CEO of Med Dimensions LLC. He has an interest in designing patient specific and prosthetic devices for animal patients. UPDATE: Our Bio-Medical program rep will be hosting a meeting on Tuesday, January 19th at 7:00 pm EST rather than the 20th Hey FVC! Our next program representative meeting is taking place on Wednesday, January 20th at 7:00 pm EST! Our new reps are here for Animal Biology, Bio-Medical Science, Zoology, Biological Science, and Molecular Biology and Genetics! In separate breakout rooms, you will be able to talk to your respective program representative about your interests in veterinary medicine, mental health, information about the OVC application, and exchange feedback on courses within your program. Your program representative will also talk about the different animal/veterinary/research experiences they have had and how they have acquired these experiences. This is a great opportunity to brainstorm ideas for getting summer experience if you don't have anything set up yet! You may also join program representative socials from outside of your own program. FVC executives will also be popping in and out of these meetings so you can also ask us any questions! We hope to see you there - this is a great way to jump back into the semester and meet new friends with the same interests as you!
