Scouting in Fraser Valley is moving back to Stage 1. These have been chaotic times, and we have worked hard to bring order to the reality of COVID-19. In reality though, it has been difficult to navigate the different public health orders, provincial guidelines, and align Scouts Canada’s standards. As much as we want to continue outdoor activities, we need to continue to demonstrate safety leadership within the community. The announcement made on Tuesday by Bonnie Henry in...cluded additional restrictions for local activities. Therefore, after further consideration, it has been determined that all Councils in British Columbia move to stage 1 until December 18th. While we recognize that there may be some that may not like the decision to return to virtual scouting, we believe, you will agree it’s the right thing to do. Bonnie Henry has asked citizens to do more to reverse the curve and control the transmission of the virus. We know that Mental Health concerns are on the rise and that Scouting plays a vital role in the health and wellbeing of youth, however, we also know that we need to support our community and reduce the potential transmission of the Covid-19 virus. We need to demonstrate local leadership, and, as Dr. Henry noted, focus on the intent of what we are trying to do right now, which is stop those transmissions from happening, reducing our connections so that we can get through this next phase of the pandemic together. We need to show compassion, understanding and do our part. Please don't hesitate to reach out to your Group Commissioner, Group Support Scouter, or anyone on our Council Leadership Team if you need any support or resources. We've got your back and we will get through this together!
Important Update: Fraser Valley Council along with the rest of Scouting in BC has moved back into Stage 2 and can return to in-person outdoor Scouting adventures if you choose to do so. We do recognize that at this time many groups, Scouters, and families may not be comfortable meeting in person. We encourage all groups to please have a conversation with your Scouters and families to determine if you are comfortable and would like to meet outdoors, continue virtually or mo...ve to some sort of a hybrid program. This decision was not made lightly. After careful consideration: consultation with the Scouting Experience team; review of our Pandemic safety guidelines; conversation and feedback from a medical health officer with the Fraser Health Authority; and consideration of the importance of Scouting on the health and wellbeing of the youth in our community; as an organization, and as a Council Leadership Team, we are confident that we have the necessary precautions in place to return to Stage 2 of Scouting (outdoors only) effective immediately. As long as we continue to be mindful of the Provincial Health Order and operate within our pandemic guidelines (cohorts of 8, max 16, 2m physical distancing, handwashing and sanitizing, ensuring prescreening, drop off and pick up plans, etc), we can return to in person meetings, within our respective communities. We also strongly encourage that groups and individuals use masks at all times as an extra layer of protection to reduce the risk of transmission, and work with your youth to understand the importance of maintaining physical distance. We recognize that these are difficult and uncertain times and we appreciate all that you are doing for all the youth in Scouting and community, and for your teams! Your hard work and diligence in planning and organizing outdoor and virtual adventures for our youth will have a lasting effect.
Today is the last day to place your scout coffee order. Visit scoutcoffee.ca to place your order and help support our youth's adventures.
