Please see the following message regarding Updated Protocols for COVID-19 Testing and Contact Tracing At the beginning of the 2020/21 school year, Alberta Health Services (AHS) recommended that all close contacts be tested once for COVID-19 during their quarantine period. Additional testing was recommended if a contact developed symptoms after being tested.... Given the rapidly increasing number of COVID-19 cases across the province, along with the increasing proportion of new cases being VOCs, AHS is adjusting its approach to testing and notification for close contacts. As an additional safety measure across Alberta, effecting Thursday, April 8, 2021, AHS recommends all Albertans, including students and staff in schools, who are close contacts be tested twice. The first test should be booked as soon as possible after receiving notification of the exposure. The second test should occur between Day 10 and Day 14 (preferably on Day 10) of the quarantine period, if the first test is negative. Anyone who develops symptoms should be tested as soon as possible. As part of this new process, AHS will no longer be providing a second notification for cases or close contacts of B.117 (first identified in the U.K.). All close contacts will be advised by AHS if a P.1 (first identified in Brazil) or B.135.1 (first identified in South Africa) is identified.
