One of my favourite sayings I came across during my time as a paramedic was a quote by Mahatma Gandhi and it went the best way to find yourself, is to loose yo...urself in the service of others. I love this quote and it’s always held true. I never feel more whole than I do when I am volunteering or giving back. After deciding it was mentally that time to leave the emergency world behind, I wondered how another career would ever allow me to feel like I could make even a little bit of a difference in our community and our world. After opening the cafe doors in December, I couldn’t have ever imagined our first year would end up with us closing a few months in. Our big summer plans are now 2021s big summer plans and my goals of taking the café to where I dreamed it would be this year seems a bit further off in the distance now... ... But I also could have never imagined how full my heart would feel 4 months in. How even behind these closed bakery doors, in the silent and lonely cafe, that the pride in our community and our country that washes over me is more than I ever could have dreamed. The acts of kindness I see daily throughout our communities (and country) will be the fond memories and the silver linings in this horrible pandemic. I’m so very proud to live in Canada and am so very proud of our little town. Today we are announcing our Covid-19 Giveback Mission number SEVEN! These missions would not be possible if it wasn’t for you guys, our valued customers whom have supported us through these uncertain times. Thank you. Thank you for choosing Kinden’s for your caffeine fix, your lunch time dates, your loved ones special occasion desserts/cakes and all the pick me up treat boxes we have delivered over the past month It has allowed us to in turn giveback in so many ways that may have otherwise not been possible. I may be good at making you feel full (), but you all make me feel whole. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. This week we decided to extend our love and gratitude a little outside our communities boarders... well maybe far outside our boarders. This week Lewisporte was the topic of an act of kindness Canada wide. We decided to give back to our nations first responders and front line workers from coast to coast. To do this we enlisted the help from fellow bakeries in every single province and territory throughout the country. It was so exciting to be able not only to support but to meet and make friends with other similar businesses from PEI to Nunavut to Yukon & B.C. and all others in between. We asked each bakery to deliver a gift box of goodies to a local detachment/essential business in their community from us here in Lewisporte. From Police, to paramedics, to firefighters and other essential front line workers we wanted to make sure we said thank you. Thank you for your unwavering selfless service in such a time of uncertainty. You are the glue holding this country together and thank you just doesn’t seem like strong enough words to express our gratitude.
