The music is transcendent, the sense of place is transporting and if you need escape - from politics, from illness, from anything - it’s a restorative breathing space in sound. The Telegraph The podcast is lovely, this festival is sgoinneil!

It's that time of the week again... time to learn another song with Josie Duncan And what is better than a song that has only 3 different lines to learn?! Tod...ay's song is "'S toigh leam fhìn buntàta 's ìm", all about the enjoying the simpler things in life. Feuch e ma-thà agus cuir thugainn am bhidio agad fhèin | Give it a go and then send us your own video!

A question was asked this morning about what we should say to a piper just before they complete... similar to break a leg.. I like to use the words that inspire...d James (Jimmy) Cleland Richardson VC. The VC - Victoria Cross was the highest medal for bravery in the British Commonwealth made from the metal from the Russian guns captured at the Siege of Sevastapol, during the Crimean War. Pte. Richardson was a member of the Canadian Scottish Regiment and in 2003 his pipes were recovered and returned to Canada by a friend of mine Roger McGuire the then Pipe Major of the Regiment. I was fortunate to be present at the ceremony in 2003. Jimmy like everyone else was pinned down and could see the men were dispirited so he called out to his sergeant over the sound of gunfire ... Should I play my pipes? The answer came back "Give 'em wind boy, Give 'em wind" Here is the full story... During the Battle of the Ancre Heights on 8 October 1916 at Regina Trench, Somme, France, the company was held up by very strong wire and came under intense fire. Piper Richardson, who had obtained permission to play the company 'over the top' strode up and down outside the wire playing his pipes, which so inspired the company that the wire was rushed and the position captured. Later the piper was detailed to take back a wounded comrade and some prisoners, but after proceeding some distance he insisted on turning back to recover his pipes which he had left behind. He was never seen again. SO GIVE 'EM WIND BOY, GIVE 'EM WIND" For the full story check out https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Cleland_Richardson
